Rally Accident

Yes, it was a rally sponsored by Ferrari of LI and a few F430's were involved. To the best of my knowledge no one was injured; I know how the adrenaline starts flowing at these events and we just get carried away but we need to remember that we are on public roads after all and need to tone things down just a tad.

Yeah, you're referring to Exotics Rally's "Turkey Run for Charity" that took place a few weeks ago (It kicked off at FoLI). I never got all of the details, but an F430 managed to bump into the back of another F430 and cause a good deal of damage to the bumpers. No one was hurt though, and there were no other incidents on the day other than a boneheaded kid in a Z06 fleeing the police at speeds well over 120. Considering there were 180 cars, I'd say they did well....but there's always room for improvement!

 

Gotta wonder why, with all the Vipers, Lambos, Porsches, and Vettes on that run, the two cars that tangle are Ferraris. Take it to the track

 

From what I heard, it wasn't their fault. A trooper stepped out onto the highway and the front F430 slammed on the brakes...leaving little time for the following F430 to understand why.

LOL So there's this trooper who materialized on the road (no car on the shoulder) and this following driver who has the reflexes of a drunken school girl who equally is oblivious to what is going on in front of him. C'mon, ya gotta do better than that...

I heard last summer, in the state of Maryland, the police stopped the practice of the "step out".

They realized that it may be a hazardous practice. After all, being in front of a speedling, panick braking, out of control car may not be where you really wanted to be. There is just no need and other safer methods of policing.

 

I had never heeard of this "step out" and had no idea it was legal. wtf

 

I wouldn't open your mouth like that until you've met some of the members and the organiser of the said rally.

 

I guess there is no way around that argument....it's just unfortunate that it happened to two wonderful cars.

With all due respect to you, I have met some of those members and the organizer and would have to agree with Hexxman's thoughts(even if he sounds a bit harsh) Based on my past experiences with the whole run/rally concept, I felt it is only a reciepe for trouble..............evidently my feelings have been confirmed.

 

Fair enough, everyone is entitled to an opinion.

 

You have a bone to pick with both the organizer and FOLI, so your thread and posts are probably just a wee bid jaded and suspect of true concern. If you don't like rallies don't attend.

I have been to some great rallies and some not so wonderful. But, I have also seen plenty of boneheaded behavior just driving around on the streets everyday, so it's really up to the person behind the wheel to keep out of trouble.

 

I've seen lots of those "rallies" . Sorry, pal; but 'boneheads' encompass the lion's share.
