Very nice!, I would have loved that as a kid!. :)

When I was 2 years old My dad bought me a Jim Clarke lotus type 25 plastic pedal car with the push rod drive to the rear wheels.
He wanted Me to grow up to be a Lotus Fan (Sorry Dad!) and was determined I should have this car (which didn't please My mum as it was mega expensive back in 1970).
My lasting memories of it are:

    1) Having to wait @ 4 years before I could reach the pedals!.

    2) In the mean time cutting the backs of My legs on the sharp plastic at the edge of the seat everytime I tried to shuffle it around through the hole in the floor.

    3) When I could finally reach the pedals the push roads tried to act against each other more often than not and I ended up going slightly forward then just rocking back and forth.

    4) Despite all the above, I loved that car! (I loved My David Brown tractor more though, chain drive to the rear wheels and wheelspin city on gravel! :D ).

I don't know what happened to the car but it's probably worth a fortune now. :(

It did teach Me that a Lotus is tricky to drive, will be unreliable and cause you pain one way or another! :D (probably why I became a Ferrari fanatic so thanks for that Dad!).

Oh to be a kid again! :)

Here's Spencer's ride. He's got a few more to grow into.

Do you sell Luca's new ride? If so, How much and how fast? :) Is there a wait list? Its gotta have CF interior.

    Scott -

We don't sell them -- I found it on-line through a bit of research. It is a "Berchet F1" 12v car. There are older ones from the 90's, but this is a 2004 model. It's quite heavy, and well designed for the way kids drive (and crash!). The problem that I forsee is the turning radius -- it is very very wide. He used to ride his other electric car inside the house. This one? No way... I think the turning radius is like 2 billion feet. I'll measure it today... but it's pretty bad.

On the bright side, he rode it last night in the driveway (freezing cold, so not very long) and had an absolute BLAST. Transition from a 'push button' accelerator on his old PowerWheels toy to a proper pedal accelerator is taking some time. He seemed to continually press the steering wheel buttons on the Ferrari (which control gearing) rather than the foot pedal. It'll take some mental adjustment, but he'll get it. The reverse gear was quite handy when he went flying off into the bushes.

If it warms up today, we'll take it over to the Ricambi office where the parking lot has plenty of room and there's no risk of running out into the street.

I'll drag some video off the camera and try to post it.

Here's a guy in Australia who heavily modified an older Berchet for his son: YouTube Berchet. I think I'd get Luca a proper SodiKart before doing that kind of mod... but in reality, that's still at least a year or two away!

Todd, you missed out on the car! Marc got the 'generation 1' Ricambi car yesterday. I suspect Barron is a wee bit too small for it, but if you play your cards right, maybe you could swipe it from him when he's not looking.

Luca has just about outgrown the F1 car. :( I would estimate it has about 30-40 miles of road use on it. We take trips around the neighborhood that are about 1 mile each, and today's trip had him pretty scrunched into the cockpit. Apart from being a tighter fit, he is about 43 pounds, which puts a strain on the batteries. We run it in high gear for the full mile, and it take about 80% of the indicated battery strength for the trip. (Up and down residential streets)

So, we're now on the hunt for something gasoline powered I think. My first kart was 3hp, and I think it was plenty of power. 3hp, without some kind of governor would be too fast for Luca at this point. Any suggestions?
