actually the tin snips worked out great. I was supprised at how easily it came off.

I was also supprised that the tubes are not steel as a magnet would not stick to them. The flanges are though.

Got new nuts and gaskets and once these get on I can put everything else back on (new cross over hoses, new belts and tensioners, etc.). Already got the new drain pan gaskets in place.

Those are the OEM North American units, de cladded and shown some Jet Hot love......in another thread we were debating the material.

Decided it was mild steel, but yours were NOT magnetic???

    Hmmmm.

Did the same thing with the headers on my '78 308. Jet Hot does excellent work. Mine came back from them looking just as nice as the ones above. After 2 years of use, they still look just as good as they did the day they were installed. And the engine compartment does not get as hot as it did before I stripped off the shielding and had them coated. Jet Hot is a great product, highly recommend it.

Sean, the headers look great. Could you post another photo looking back at the open end of the flange where the round gasket goes (not the end that bolts to the engine the end that goes to the mufler). I got most of the gasket off without much trouble but I have the feeling that I do not have all the gasket material off the tube. As soon as that is done mine will be going off for the same treatment.

It is my belief that the pipes of the originals are stainless, not the flanges and the test-bungs, which are mild steel.

What is the cost of the Jet Hot process?

nice job on the headers. If you haven't replaced the exhaust studs this is the time to do it.

Sorry for the delay, was busy and my 'new' company orientation. We just got bought by a larger company, which so far looks to be a good thing.

The cost was $60 to ship to them to AZ ($25 ship + $35 insurance - better safe than sorry). Jet Hot charged me $285 + $34 = $319 to clean and coat them Sterling Silver, then ship them back to my house. So total cost was $379. Very reasonable IMO.

I could not get the test tube connections off the front header as the fitting just broke when I tried to get them out. So I cut them off and my neighbor welded them shut for me. I suppose if I ever wanted them back I could just tap new holes, but why? No emmissions testing here in TX.

Unfortunetly, the 2 test ports on the back unit were slightly stripped when JH removed the plugs to get everything cleaned coated corretly. Two of them are in fine, one seems to have been lost, and the 4th one will not screw in. I will probably just drill out the threads and tap some new ones and plug the test ports with a brass screw and washer. I should have been thinking and just welded them shut like I did with the front but I just missed it.

I do have new nuts from Superformance.co.uk - whom I also purchased my new gaskets from. Unfortunetly they just threw everything into a Fed-Ex envelope and one nut had worked it's way out and was stuck in the sealed lip, but one had worked it's way out and was lost so I'm one short. NBD as one of them old ones still looks pretty good.

Also got new fuel crossover hoses from Dave Helms.

I had Jet Hot do my FF2000 car many moons ago and the stuff held up great. Kept things cool and everything flows better.

Skip, there should be a ~2" round pipe sticking ~1/2" beyond that connecting flange at the exit of the headers. It should be clean and smooth.
