    Has anyone been in a successful long distance relationship?

    I just started seeing this girl a few weeks ago, introudced to one another through her cousin. She lives in Dallas, I live in Houston. So it's not terrribly far, but 4 hours is a lot further than it sounds.

    We met for the first time Thanksgiving weekend and had our first date before she went back home. I went up the following weekend, and she came down last weekend. May not see each other until after the first of the year because of our schedules. We seem to click really well.

    Just wanting some insight from others.

    Just make sure she ain't on her period when you see each other. Otherwise, no matter how blue your balls are, you'll just be holding hands once a month.

    I'd go with it, and see where it leads.....

    ....But from everything I've heard anecdotely(sp?) from friends that have tried it, only one has actually worked, and they had a clear date at which they could be together (her finishing the final year of school). From the stories I've heard the odds are stacked against you, but that it CAN work. :D

    It's definitely going to take some work.

    We had a talk before she left because of some miscommunication in one of my texts last week that she took the wrong way. Pretty sure her last relationship went very badly because of some ways she mentioned things. I mentioned something about her not being comfortable talking to me about it, and she sort of skirted the issue. So I think she's really scarred about being hurt and getting too serious too fast.

    Her cousin (my friends wife) had been trying to get us to meet for half a year. She only mentioned her 2 times to me, but apparently told her about me all the time.

    This is the first girl I've really actually had a true connection with and the long distance thing throws a kink in it. But I think it could help things too though.

    It can only work if one or the other has plans to move closer in the immediate future.

    So yeah if she plans to move near you in 8 month that is enough to keep you both excited and the flame going.

    But otherwise its really a FWB thing

    I live in Newport Beach, My wife lived in Fresno. That was 4 hrs. away. and it works. been married for 9+ years.

    We haven't made it to the "benefits" part yet, lol. So no, the moving.

    It's something I've thought of from the beginning, but I'm not totally opposed to the idea but it's way too far in the future imo. After I took her to lunch before she headed back the first weekend we met I had friends calling me saying I can't move and I can't become a cowboys fan.

    I was like woah guys, we just met and went on one date hold your GD horses. I could never be a cowboys fan though. :D

    Four hours is nothing, like all things though relationships take work. Skype, as someone mentioned, is a good tool and has a video function.

    one of my ex's lived 4 hours away, we were together for 2 years. The first year was spent 4 hrs apart, and we'd see each other maybe every couple of months or something. It was really tough. After a year passed, I moved to where she lived, we stayed together for another year then split and I moved back. Do I regret it? Not at all. I had the best times of my life living there, but there were some hard times being separated for so long

    I'm not thinking far ahead at all and just seeing where things go. I was just curious of fchatters experiences in long distance relationships.

    Ask Fchat what Ferrari would you own and you get multiple answers with varying experiences. Each completely different and we can see that in this thread already.

    I am in the same boat as the OP as I met a great girl about a month ago. She lives about 2 hours away and Last weekend she cam to spend the weekend with me. This weekend i will spend it with her. The times that we are not together we spend close to 2 hours a night on the phone talking.

    I will keep you guys updated as well but so far everything is going great.
