Thank you everyone. The Cannonball car is a lifelong dream come true for me. The car went immediately into restoration when I got her nearly a year ago, so you can imagine how excited I am to be getting her home this week! I will post the pix this weekend! Image Unavailable, Please Login
You are a lucky, lucky, lucky man. I can't imagine how amazing it must feel to sit in you garage w/ no one else around and just look at that car, knowing that it's the one from childhood/youth fantasy. It boggles my mind. Congrats.
Jeff please get your parents Beta tape of you with the model yelling that it would be yours one day. Put it on YouTube. We need to see that. Single handidly the best car fantasy story I know.' congrats Jeff. I can promise you this car will not be sold again in our lifetime. Next owner will have to be a grave robber if I know Jeff.
I watched the movie on Sky the other day. Did I see a phone or something on the drivers side when they are just about to fight the bikies?
Funny The FCC didn't authorize commercial cellular phones until 1982, and the first US cellular phone service became available in 1983. Cannonball Run was released two years prior, in June, 1981! I'd love to find one of those giant white phones for display with the car.
Jeff: You made your first fortune in the cellular phone industry. So YES you need to find one of those phones!
Try garage sales, it's probably just a "prop". My mother had a phone like that in her kitchen back in the 80s.
+1 Go for it ! that would be a Youtube record breaking blockbuster ! and inspiration for millions of kids around the globe
She is home! Tony did an AMAZING job on the restoration. The car is absolutely phenomenal, runs perfectly and is a blast to drive! She arrived Friday night and is very happy now, sitting between the Dumb & Dumber Diablo and my other lo-body Countach! Saturday morning my brother and I went out for a drive, he took his stunning '86 TR. We had a great time! Last night was my annual Christmas party. Ron Rice, founder of Hawaiian Tropic and the person that owned the Cannonball car for nearly 30 years, was there (picture below.) Ron told me how happy he was that after being her "custodian" for almost three decades, that the car was in now such good hands, and getting the care that it deserved. Rest assured, Cannonball will be driven, shown and thoroughly enjoyed, and maintained forever in it's now concours condition! There are many people to thank, including Tony Ieradi and the guys at Naples Auto Italia, Monte Patterson, George Evans, Joe Sackey, Victor Woloschinow, and my many friends and family that helped make this dream possible! Grazie Mille! Bravo!!! Enjoy all of them!!! I would have loved to have seen Ron's reaction after he saw the car for the first time in the restored condition.
