Has anyone experience in negotiating a dicount on a pre-owned car (2007 or 2008 599 or 612) sitting on dealer lot? What sort of margin do they tend to make on pre-owned stock?
I bought an 08 599 with 1000 miles on it in September. I did some research and found the asking price was within a fair range. I did not concern myself with dealer margin, but wanted a fair price for a great car. The market is the market and instead of trying to calculate dealer margin, I would suggest you look at the window sticker, compare options with similar cars available and simply make an offer. If it's a Ferrari dealer that has the car, you make want to take in consideration that you want to build a relationship with that dealer. You may want to sell the car down a some point in the future and they can assist you in this regard. If it's a not a Ferrari dealer, but rather a Porsche, Mercedes or other high line dealer with a single Ferrari on the floor, you should ask more questions about the car and possibly make a lower offer due to the fact that your incentive to build a relationship is absent and favors a single transaction. Lastly, find out if your state allows consignment. If the dealer is marketing the car but does not have money into it (needs to call owner to approve your offer) you may have more or less negotiating power based on the owners position. That's my opinion, hope this helps. I can tell you that the 599 is absolutely worth it, keep us posted and send pictures after you buy it.
Seems like a lot of 612's for sale right now, and not many seem to be selling. Prices are down and there seem to be no buyers at the current asking prices, so to me a buyers market now for the 612. Big difference from a OTO car to any standard ones without the glass roof and latest options.
Make them an offer. Much of the inventory you see at a Ferrari dealer is on consignment from an owner anyway, and assuming the offer isn't ridiculous (and I doubt if there are any ridiculous offers these days), they will take the offer to the owner of the car and he or she will decide. So make an offer you're happy with-- but in this market, be careful, it might get accepted!
One-to-One: Customization program for the 612, where you sit with Atelier and customize the car with some additional possibilities not in the standard 612.
612 and 599 now and I believe it is coming soon to the California if I remember correctly during factory tour.
The margins on new Ferraris in the USA is 18 to 20%. So a 599 with a MSRP of $350K is $280K approx invoice. There is an incentive on untitled 2009 599's of $20K from FNA to dealers. There are a number of US model 2010 599's at landside US awaiting release to dealers. The best deals are very low mileage 2008's titled simply to sell at around dealer invoice. A friend traded a 2008 for $250K recently, the car is now offered at $285K. He lost over $100K in a year ! No reason not to buy though, they will fall about $40K a year for the next 2 years. That's only a little more than my 575M. Check Mannheim for up to date trades in January. I believe 2007's are very close to $200K as a trade in. Buy a certified 2008 from a dealer, get 2 year balance of warranty, get a Power Cube warranty for the 3rd year, even get them to install the $23,000 HGTE package at dealer cost. Or be tempted by 2007 model's outside the Ferrari network for around $230K. It's only depreciation and that's the price you pay to play. Ferrari owners are lucky, they could try and unload a MBenz McLaren SLR, that could give you a serious nose bleed.
All 612s from 2008 on are OTO cars. The real meaning is that Ferrari won't build the car without an end customer's name attached. It really has nothing to with options or customization. In fact, when the 612 OTO program started, there were fewer options than before.
All 2008 612 cars are not OTO cars, the early ones are not or at least if they are do not have the latest 2008 equipment such as the glass roof nor the 559 steering wheel with the manetinno switch. The prices on each reflect the difference. Maybe just a change during the early part of the year on 2008 cars?
I just bought a brand new 612 OTO from Newport Beach ferrari--they were great to deal with and very reasonable. I recommend buying one of the 2009 612 OTO's that are still out there. That said if you are extremely price sensitive the best 2008 to me on the market is at LA auto gallery--it is nero and chocolate with diamond stitching--is late 2008 so it is OTO was brad garrett's car and has about 3000 miles--can be had for 225.
I'm pretty sure that's not correct. Ferrari went from building the original 612 to the Sessanta, and then straight to the OTO. It's possible that they might have delivered a few of the final cars before the Sessanta in January of 2008, though.
There are several 2008 cars for sale that do not have the glass roof nor the later model 599 steering wheel with the start button and the manetinno switch. Not sure what else is 'missing' on the non OTO 2008 cars, but they are priced lower for sure as they are earlier 2008 production cars. Most of the early 2008 cars appear to not have very special interiors like OTO cars mostly have too. Some do not even have the carbon ceramic brakes which are now standard too from 2008, but maybe those came later in 2008.
What identifies these cars as "2008" then? EDIT: You know, in looking at the VINs, it does look like they built a few 612s between the Sessanta and the OTO. So maybe some of those were delivered in early 2008. From the looks of them (specifically 159860 and 160014), they look like normal pre-OTO cars. I wonder if they had some parts left over to use up?
when i see prices in the states, i so wanna go back to buy all the cars! a 599 and 612 here in taiwan costs like US $480k to $600k easy. and yes, i think they came up with the OTO program so u have to pay for a 612 first to get it, dealers cant afford letting them sit on the show room floor.
If you look on eBay at the 2008 cars for sale, all are not OTO cars, but are 2008 cars. serials 158654, 158917,158920, and 159692. All low mileage cars, two at least do not have carbon ceramic brakes, none have the glass roof or the later model steering wheel. It seems to show all 2008 cars are not OTO, only later ones it appears.
Holy Crap! 18-20%? I thought it was more like 12%. I am going to be looking for more love from my dealer for my Cali order!
How the heck does he fit in that? I am 6'3" (I understand that he is 6'5") and I must put the seat is a very specific configuration so that my head doesn't piston into the headliner.
He traded his 612 in for a 599, not sure if that has more headroom or not, but he wanted a 599 from the outset but back then they were not available. Now one can buy either a 599 or 612 with no problem.
Interesting-- I'm 6'4" and I have no headroom problems in the 612 whatsoever. I would guess that the OTO, with the glass roof, has a bit more headroom than the older cars-- but I've driven an older car as well and didn't have any problems.
