I dont know if they get much bigger than this puppy. Of course nobody lives there anymore... so I don't know if it would count.

I have been lucky enough to have designed and built some of the largest homes in Southern California. You get a lot of heat from people saying why would anyone want
such project. All I can say is that the world is a better place with people how want things like this. I have never seen anything wrong with someone employing hundreds of people
for often over two years.

Sad to see it in shambles like that...I can't imagine the cost to bring it back to its former beauty. The story behind that place is odd as well. The grounds (specifically location) and design of the exterior aren't my style, but definitely a lot of skill was put to use in designing and building it...for sure.

That was designed well. Unlike this $100mm piece of crap in Orlando (Windermere technically):

$75mm price if finished to the seller's specs (which is???) vs. $100mm if completed to the custom way of the buyer. One has to wonder if the $25mm difference is just plain drywall, paint, and popcorn ceiling, lol.

Btw, the guy who is selling it halted construction on it a year ago. He owns the Westgate Lakes time share in Orlando. Guess the real estate bubble took a huge hit on him. You should see his ex-wife's house down the street...

Impressive, but somehow too much. There is a lot of style there, but none of it looks correct to me for what the house is, the era of it's construction... it just looks wrong IMO

 

I wouldn't want to meet the ego that would feel at home there.

I worked on many large, opulent houses during my career as an architect and could never quite understand the motives of those who commissioned them.

 

I've got nothing against big or expensive just the fantasy based theme park school of design.
