WTF another one catches fire. Fuel lines get ruptured, pours gas on the hot cats and it's up in flames. Happens way too often. RIP to the deceased.

So what is the solution? If this as another kid in a Honda the press and public would be screaming for a crack down on "tuner" cars. Can we expect a similar theme of enforcement with the exotic hobby?

With great power comes great responsibility.

This is the kind of accident that just doesn't "happen". It's not a random event. You don't skip over the center medium at high speed unless you're doing something nutty.

I'm not saying anyone deserved this. What I am saying is that when you create unsafe situations -- in any car -- expect an unsafe outcome.

The only thing we might hope for is that someone else may learn from this.

Agreed. Whenever it's a Ferrari driver hearts go out to the family but when some Honda Civic tuner driver does something this stupid the guy or gal is a moron who deserved it.

No matter the circumstance someone lost their life because of stupidity and it could've been ANYONE going the other direction in traffic. Just so happened that it was something big enough to withstand the impact of "stupid" this time.

I copied these from the LA times blog...

I was there before the police or the emergency units arrived. Probably 10 seconds after the impact. I rolled my VIDEO on the IPHONE got about 10 minutes of intensive fire and explosions. I have a lot to say about what I saw tonight. I got the rescue all on VIDEO. Mostly, I have to say, to the ignorant person that got there seconds before me, don't declare anyone dead if you are not sure. I beleive that delayed the rescue. I was willing to jump in and extract the passenger who was just feet from me and the fire hasn't yet overtaken the vehicles. The man screamed the kids are dead. Now, I wish I didn't listen to him. I will have to live with my regrets. Although, seconds later I started yelling, its going to blow up, and it did, just after I finished saying that. I sincerely send my deepest condolences to the families of the two gentelmen. And, I must add, the whole event was needless and very very sad on this special eve, whereby these men should have been gathering with their families rather then being involved in this unbelievable tragedy... I was driving home around 9PM when I got a text from Edward asking "If I was home safe". Kind of an ominous message on Xmas Eve so I figured something was up. When I heard gray 430 Spyder I knew some would wonder if it was me. So I wanted to get a quick message up. My condolences to the families involved.

Merry Xmas all and BE SAFE!

Not sure what is causing all the flames?

Maybe we pull the fuel tanks and wrap them in composite material and/or perhaps go to a fuel cell type center core?

I hope it's not this young kid i see driving his dark LOUD 430 spider. He always had his buddy with him. The driver looked either like a Indian or a persian. I use to see them going South on PCH in Newport on Saturday mornings around 9:30. Always either driving fast or driving with high revs. Too bad. When you give a kid power, they better respect it. My father always told me: Use power to get you out of trouble, not into trouble!!!! R.I.P.

You guys need to get some Moderators with brain cells.

Everytime there is a fatality...you have a F Chat poster spout off oral diarrhea and insult the deceased.

It reflects VERY badly on this forum AND and all owners who sit silent and enable it.

A terrible shame. Don't know the people, but if the driver recovers, and if indeed he was going too fast, then he's a murderer and should be locked up for the rest of his life.

Driving that fast, on that road, with traffic is asking to kill or hurt someone. If someone has the need to go that fast, then they'd be a lot better off doing track days.

While it is a tragedy, it was avoidable, and an innocent young man (the passenger) is dead. What a shame.
