I have several genuine watches each worth several thousand dollars - but this year I've bought 3 replicas spending a total of perhaps $450 and they have given me just as much pleasure as the gens. Maybe even more as I don't have to worry about them! I love being able to wear a different watch whenever the mood strikes and the reps are a nice cheap way to indulge some unusual watches that I would not spend a lot of money on. IOW I wouldn't spend $5K on anything but a really classic watch but I'll spend $200 on something high fashion or trendy without hesitation. If it is out of style in a year so what? I had my fun with it.
I'll be buying 2-3 more reps in the next month or so, just a matter of picking them! Let's see there's that Chopard I've had my eye on and I've always fancied a Marina Militare...

That's another good point, anything that takes that much time, patience and skill to produce is def worth a lot more than they are selling for. Yes, I am going to get one, I just don't know which one I want. I was thinking an RM first, but there are just so many to choose from....I'll probably get a couple :)

Not to rain on this parade, but the reason they are so cheap is because the real company is paying for all of the R&D while these replica companies just take them apart and copy everything. It still is amazing that they can sell metal and plastic assembled so carefully for that price, but keep in mind that these are not legal. It's like saying "wow, musicians spend all of this effort writing and recording songs, and I can download them for free off of the internet!". Just sayin'...

Back in the 80's a group of us were returning from a vacation. One girl had a cheap Rolex clone she had bought on the street in NYC. US Customs confiscated, and they had the right to. She was pissed and let them know. They then told her a more through search was a possibility.

Thanks for the advice on the Chinese new year mate. I think I will wait till March then before I buy another one then. Not too sure if I will get one before they close down in Febuary. :(:(

I will check out those Chopard Mille Miglia watches now mate. Thanks for that. :):)

Pap, when you know somebody as long as you and I (since this thread really took off) :), one thing's for sure, I doubt you'll wait until MARCH to get another watch! For $108 or so to get something great again, ya gotta pull the trigger at least one more time before then! :)

Yeah, **** it. Looking at a Panerai Luminor Marina now.:eek:

TOOOOOOOOOOOOOO many to chose from. Yesterday I was going to get a U-Boat, now am drooling over the Panerai. :D:D

Chopard Mille Miglia is pretty cool too. ;);)

If I buy one right NOW, do you think I will get it before they close down?? It only took 7 or so days to get my RM. But that was before Xmas. :D:D

    Haha!!!

You can order anytime before they close down and get it in the same time period. So if it's Febuary 1 let's say, you can order on January 28th and it should be like nothing unusual. You still have a good month to place your order from now. It's only when they go on holiday and you want to place your order after they've left that *might* be a problem. I don't want to speak for WatchEden, but in years past most places don't ship on orders placed *during* that time period, but they still might even send during that period just more slowly. It will say on their website about their New Year with details as it gets closer - everyone should be well informed weeks in advanced. It only takes them a day or two to ship the watch, once it leaves their hands it's all shipping, so no worries!

That was lengthy, short version: business as usual until they actually go on holiday(which they will let you know about on their website well in advance). Don't let that be any concern unless you want to place an order *during* their holiday.

Now go order some sweet watches! There's plenty of time! :)

Thanks. I'm debating my next one. Probably a Panerai Marina Militare, maybe in a destro. I also want something in rose gold but doubt that the finish will hold up. I like the fact that some of them can be ordered in a titanium case and choices of brushed or polished etc. After that probably a Chopard MM or an Oris TT1 diver. That Richard Mille thing is really cool but too big for me.

Too easy my friend, going to order something directly! :D:D

Awesome mate!! Those Panerai's look awesome. Id love rose gold too, but it wont last I reckon. :):)

RM watch is pretty big. Suits me to a tee and is why I want a 50mm U-Boat watch. :D:D

Chopard MM is cool, but I think I will get me a Panerai next.............errrrr, directly! :D:D

The first one. I don't know how fussy you are about the details on a rep like this - some of the people on the rep forums are pretty psycho about it. They go on and on about the curve of the 2 and the tail of this number and the size and placement of the Swiss Made lettering and so on. I'm not that bothered with the little stuff but there are a few things I'm willing to pay for. One being the lume on the dial - which I'm told is outstanding on another dealer's $200 version. Another detail is the pin on the crown guard - which on many cheap reps is not flush as it should be. The flip part of the crown guard is also loose on many reps. A sapphire crystal would be another detail I'd pay more for. None of these details, btw, should be taken as criticism of the WE version you are looking at. It looks good, certainly hard to beat at the price they want for it.
Have a look (if you've time and want to make yourself nuts) at the Panerai section and the dealers sections on these forums:

I mostly use the first one.

I say go with the first one too, Pap. I wouldn't go with the second one for the same reason I would be hesitant to get a gold plated one. It will look good for a while, but it is inevitable that the coating will fade off.

I was looking at a different site, and I found this one, http://replicawatch88.com/index.php?productID=162&picture_id=841120. I'm in love with it. The price is a little higher, but like Stig said, this one has some features like the sapphire crystal, and a double AR coating. Plus I haven't found it anywhere else. I'm gonna get this one.

Cheers mate, I am going to get the first one. Going to watch a movie then I will buy it. :D:D

The little things dont bother me. Hell, for $108 ($20 off), this Panerai will be a nice addition to my collection. :D:D

Thanks for the links to those forums. The thought of it drives me mad, so I am not going to join up to read through them. :p:p

Cheers mate, I was mainly tounging for the first one also after I found it. :):)

That is also a nice watch you are getting mate. Looks the goods! :D:D

too late to ask really, since already ordered a watch, but what are the laws regarding the replicas? do these come from overseas to you directly, setting off alarm bells with black helicopters, or do they go to someone else on the business end, and then ship to you?

if it gets confiscated , oh well. i wont buy anymore. but only buying 1-2 different watches should not set off "alarms" with US Customs.

    just wondering.

I haven't ordered any yet, but one of the sites I look at says that "customs clearance and delays may be unavoidable, but there is nothing to worry about." This is from a site that comes recommended from several people on the watch forums.

A couple of the dealers that I've seen on one of the forums that I linked ship from within the CONUS so no worries about customs. How they get the stuff into the US is their business.
A lot of the larger dealers are nothing more than drop-shippers. They place the order with their suppliers and the watch comes straight to you from China. No quality control and if it is confiscated by customs that is strictly your problem. Shipping replicas into the EU is a problem - they are a lot tougher on counterfeits than we are.

Congrats! Looks very nice! I'm still deciding - I think I want one with no seconds at the 9 and I'm torn between high polished stainless or titanium.
