i think i hv an icom in my car too- seems to work fine except when driving with windows down cant hear anything!
to get yr own frequency need to apply formally, probably as a proper club (which has to be regd as a society) once you are assigned the freq , its legal for use in spore( tho strictly speaking not in msia) .there may also b some issue when u drive into spore with the set .customs may want to check whether u r authorised user- need IDA sticker on yr set- some guys got stopped before by spore customs after a msia drive
