Testarossa restoration

Hi guys,
I came accross these thread on a french forum, a guy is working on restoring a
crashed testarrossa, I thought some of you might enjoy it, there's a lot of pics, and work !

Dear Ferraristi,

Wow....that's really going to be a labor of love because economically, it's not worth it.

During these times, he could really buy a "decent" TR for way less he's going to spend on that one.

I bet if he parted out this car, he could make enough money to buy an OK, non damaged, non salvage title car.

Oh well.....I really wish him the best.

I have to totally agree with Shamile. Like the commercial says "got some time on your hands"! While it might start as a labor of love, I believe it will end up as a 'what the He!! was I thinking'. It is interesting to see the panels off though.

Personally, I'd check with Eurospares UK to see if they still have a new "body in white" before I'd attempt that restoration...

I agree as well.. That car is too far gone dollars and cents wise to get into a repair. Parts alone!!! There are so many nice cars for sale at reasonable prices right now why not keep that car for parts alone (mechanical parts). This is above and beyond labor of love. Its foolish.. JMO... Hope it all works out for you.. I too purchased a tarnished car with some body damages but not to this degree..

For what i've read, the guy is a mechanic and so is his dad that helps him,
he also gets some help from some friends at work for all the chassis/frame and bodywork parts.

He is doing a lot of things by himself and doesn't seem to spend a fortune on parts for the momment.
Well maybe you are right and in the end he won't make it, i don't know.

Anyways, for those who like these kind of project check out his thread,it's interresting just for all the work done, (particulary on the engine)

 

I'd view the feedback as constructive and realistic, personally...

That too will soon change...!

No doubt, a fun project...but financially insane.

 

From my own experience with a different marque, he would do well on this project if he had another TR out back that has suffered a fire or had rear end damage.
It CAN be done but the parts have to be cheap!

 

I think it is a very interesting project, and I love the Testarossa and think it's a great car so a worthy labor of love. I agree, however, that this is probably not an economically reasonable repair. But, if the guys wants to do it, I wish him the best of luck and I'll be happy to follow along and watch the progress...


And as an aside, I think this would be a fantastic base for the design of an entirely new car body.

Maybe he's doing it for fun rather than profit. Crazy project but I wish him the best of luck and the fortitude to stick with it! Just like building a kit car Testarossa but in the end you have the real thing.

I watched his vids on You Tube and the video's have a dedication in the beginning so perhaps this was his friends car and he is restoring it due to sentimental reasons.

Either way, it's quite a project! I can't wait to see the finished product.

 

I'm all in favor of saving all worthy cars from the scrap heap,so a tip of the hat to this gentleman,but I have a one owner 9,000 mile TR that I would sell him for less than this project will cost him and he could jump in it and drive it tomorrow and in the end....it has never been crashed.I hope,for his sake,that he got the crashed car for free.

I agree, cudos to this bloke for saving such a special car and not discarding it like so many would these days.
