Oh, I dunno, I don't go to football games to watch coaches, and where Meyer IS talented - that's obvious - it's not quite the same as if Paterno or Bowden were retiring, (except Bowden's is a forced retirement).

I'm glad to see Meyer take his money and enjoy life now, he's deserving of it, most folks are so clueless as to how much time coaching really takes, quite a few coaches say it is a 16-18 hr a day job - every day from July thru the end of the season including weekends.

So like, PITT & USC won. Yay! :D

Miami, Penn State, Texas left - and I'll be a happy camper!

Yea... it's generally not a good thing to take Saturday off during that time period! :D

I wonder if UF is keen to bring in another spread/option type of head-coach, or they'll go for the best available guy?

Off-hand, guys that I would consider solid coaches for Gainesville: Gary Paterson, Butch Davis, Mike Leach (lol!). . .

Could you imagine what AnotherDunneDeal if the Gators poached TCU's Gary Paterson? Hahahaha... :p

I read hear that Meyer will still be some way affiliated/involved w/ the program, though in what capacity it hasn't been mentioned.

Def' gonna be a tough guy to replace, just the way he recruited, handled rivals, and being so prolific in the SEC. . .

Well, I just hope Meyer is ok. It is a great loss to the sport to lose someone of his talent level.

    Good luck to Florida.

All the best to Coach Meyer, and best to UF in their selection.

Regarding Meyer--I'm hearing all sorts of stuff from my Gators buddies including he actually had a heart attack a couple of weeks ago. Meyer is a great planner and gameday coach but his ultimate talent is recruiting. So the theories are: 1. He's saying its a leave of absence to preserve the #1 recruiting class in the nation. 2. He has a legitimate health issue and needs R & R now. 3. Sick of the grind and wants to become overseer of the football program like Parcells at the Dolphins or Pat Riley with the Heat. 4. He's lining up a job in the NFL.

If he decides to take the indefinite leave I think Addazio is a good choice as interim coach. If it is more than a season we think Kyle Whittingham, Mike Shanahan, Dan Mullen and Charlie Strong are the best possible replacements for him, Addazio isn't HC material.

His press conference is coming up in an hour it will be interesting to see what he has to say.

    So...a leave of absence now.

NEW ORLEANS -- Less than 24 hours after he resigned, Florida coach Urban Meyer is instead taking an indefinite leave of absence and expects to be on the sideline leading the Gators when next season opens.

"I do in my gut believe that will happen," he said Sunday at a Allstate Sugar Bowl news conference.

Offensive coordinator Steve Addazio will run the team during Meyer's absence, but Meyer will coach against Cincinnati on New Year's Day.

"It's full speed ahead. We're going to do everything possible to win this game," he said.

Meyer said he was offered and encouraged to take a leave of absence earlier in the week. He said being with his players at a "spirited practice" Sunday morning persuaded him not to resign.

Something is strange with the Meyer drama. First he is resigning because of health reasons and putting his faith and family first. Less than 24 hours later he is saying he thinks he will be back before the next season starts because of a 'spirited practice' on sunday morning? I guess the claims of heart stress went away during the practice? I think he is trying to preserve the recruiting class and he can't let go of the program even if it is going to be the ultimate demise of himself or his family. Seems like he is not following the decision that took him weeks to come to.
Time will tell. I hope if he has a physical ailment he gets it taken care of.

Tuesday night we all say "GO CANES"!!!

Hmmm this whole Meyer thing doesn't pass the smell test. Seems like there has to be something more behind it than what has already been reported by Meyer or Florida.

Anyone giving odds on "threat to his life" or "gambling problem" on top of the obvious "health issue" line?

snippet: "The University of Texas Longhorns won't play for the national championship until Jan. 7, but when it comes to team value, they're already college football's runaway winners...The University of Alabama, which will play Texas in the championship game, is no slouch off the field, either. The team's value of $92 million is 31% greater than before it lured head coach Nick Saban from the NFL in 2007..."

Couldn't find the list to post (link is slideshow only) but looks to be very SEC heavy. I think all of the West teams except Ole Miss & State are listed and I recall 3 from the East (FL, SC, & TN).

Won't be the first time that infidelity brought down a coach. However, I doubt his wife would left him out of a "us (i.e. family) or football" ultimatum so soon after the resignation announcement...or maybe he realized his true love and picked football over her...that "won't be the first time" either! :D

snippet: "Texas Tech suspended coach Mike Leach indefinitely after a player and his family filed a complaint about the player's treatment after an injury...The player, Adam James, is a redshirt sophomore wide receiver for the Red Raiders and the son of ESPN college football analyst Craig James. A source close to the family said James sustained a concussion on Dec. 16, was examined on Dec. 17 and told not to practice due to a concussion and an elevated heart rate. The source said Leach called a trainer and directed him to move James "to the darkest place, to clean out the equipment and to make sure that he could not sit or lean. He was confined for three hours."..."

Can you guys even imagine the things Bryant did and got away with, with his players back in the day...?

His dead body would STILL be in jail if things were then like they are now.

I realize this is WAY off topic, but I found this digging thru YouTube. (for Bama fans only)

I remember this commercial from when I was a kid. That famous last line...

+3 Something smells rotten here too. Gator fans can think whatever they want, but you don't sit at the dinner table and tell your wife you are done, and then get up the next day and go announce to the masses that you were just kidding and you are staying, but, you are taking some time off....

    What a joke.
