    I dont think anything original went there. Well put it this way no holes in my 86 328 spare wheel housing shroud. May be a previous owner ran an amp in there?i.e ditched the spare, any signs of upgraded ice or such?? if I look at the picture, on the right seems to be a larger hole there bout 3/4 of an inch just big enough for speaker cables power etc?? Just my 2p.

    My first guess would be mounting holes for an aftermarket battery tender. Looks like the large hole in the side could be for the extension cord. Could be an amp mount too like ROSSOGTS suggested.

    Nothing goes there. Mine (76289) is holeless. Washer bag is on the passenger side by the fender. I think the other opinions are right ... battery tender or amp for stereo.
