That's wrong. Hispanics use a different format for surnames. They put the fathers surname 1st then the mothers maiden name. Senna/Alonso/Piquet are the REAL surnames.

Well i have too agree with you on this! But how is there names set out on there international passports? Is it the case that they drop there mothers maiden names while doing all international activities? Anyone know ?

Question 2, about "British" drivers who have won Championship F1 races:

I knew that 9 sounded way too low, so I counted them. There have been 13 from England, plus another 4 from Scotland and another 2 from Ireland.

Not true, Senna was Ayrton's mother's madien name. He changed it because he felt DaSilva was too common. I'm not 100% sure about Piquet or Alonso but it might be the same thing.

Chicko, you're way off on number 20. My answer may be wrong but 13 isn't correct either.
I'm assuming when you state 'how many races Ferrari missed', it equates to the amount of races Ferrari did not compete in, correct?

When people becomes famous in Hispanic countries, we use to simplify their names and use only one of the surnames, usually the first one. Of course, their "real" names (wich appear in their passports) still have the two surnames, but it´s not considered as if they were using a pseudonym.

    Don´t know in Brazil.

Chicko, didn't mention it before but thanks for the quiz, I learned quite few facts I wasn't aware of. Now down to business..;)

    1. Eleven Indy races 1950-60 isn't correct because Ferrari entered in '52. Therefore make that 10 races. They entered in '56 also but Farina couldn't find the speed to qualify the hybrid Ferrari-Kurtis.

    2. In '82 Ferrari didn't compete in 2 races, the Swiss at Dijon (One car entered but Tambay couldn't start due to an injury) and naturally, the Belgian, where the cars were withdrawn due to Gilles' sad passing.

    3. In '76 Ferrari withdrew from the Austrian GP.

    4. In '73 Ferrari didn't compete in both the Dutch and German GPs.

    There's quite a few more...;)

I apologize for being so wide of the mark. The info for that question was taken from one of the books in my collection, it's called "The Formula One Miscellany" by John White , i never independently researched it myself.

So what are you thinking the correct answer is then ? It would be nice to put a figure on it ;)

I checked in a couple of books and found the following races (just up to 1980) that Ferrari "missed":

    1950: Britain, France
    1959: Britain
    1960: USA
    1961: USA
    1962: France, USA, South Africa
    1966: Britain, Mexico
    1967: South Africa
    1968: Monaco
    1969: Germany
    1973: Holland, Germany
    1976: Austria

Jeff, Enzo withdrew the team from the '50 French GP but British driver Peter Whitehead entered a privately owned 125 and actually finished on the podium in third. Other than that, we're spot on at 27 races missed ;).
