Its generally considered that T3 & T4 are terrible films and that without Cameron any future Terminator films will be awful. I happen to like T3. I think its a fun film and the T-X is a great villian. T4..eh...there are some things about it I like but overall its pretty 'meh' to me. i think in the right hands the Terminator franchise can regain momentum.
I personally think it is a modern classic and I'll attempt to support that argument briefly... 1. The story. Before anyone attempts to say, "but the plot was paper thin" or, "the story was unoriginal"...I'd like to say this: Thin or not, unoriginal or not...doesn't matter. It is a classic story being re-imagined and re-envisioned by a master at work. Kurosawa borrowed heavily from Shakespeare, Tarantino from the 60's French cinema. But this is classic campfire storytelling at it's finest, delivered by one of the greatest storytellers in film history. There are no huge plot twists or, "Ha! Gotcha!!" moments. The story is a straight forward action/adventure epic, with a very clear message. I hope that hasn't become tantamount to boring. 2. Cameron upholds his reputation for keeping the strong female lead...Sarah Connor, Ripley, Lindsey Brigman, Helen Trasker,Rose and now Neytiri...Cameron's movies, though marketed towards males, have always at their heart been about empowered, strong women. In a world in which women are often denied the most basic of human rights, this is an important message to send. 3. 3D.
Nope. I'm a huge Terminator fan. I love everything about it and every additional movie sheds more light on the whole story. In fact I loved the "Sarah Connor Chronicles" just as much and was hugely disappointed when they canned the show on Fox. I have all the movies and TV shows plus several books and movie memorabilia at home. Terminator to me is like a religion. I actually like T3 a lot because it was realistic: The human race got nuked. Not a Hollywood ending, but one that fits. Cameron was great to come up with the concept, but I think the series can live on without him. T4 as a movie by itself could have been better, but that's not so important to me than to see the story line continuing. It was a bleek view of a bleek world. It did that job just perfectly. The story line ended with T2. Did you not watch T2? Any story line after that is made for people who don't remember T2, or are not smart enough to notice that T2 pretty much wrapped up the franchise. Glad to see Cameron still making money off suckers, though LOL.
There are millions of fans out there who would disagree with that. I don't care what is added after the fact. T2 ended the story, and that is that. Who cares if millions of fans are wrong? It happened in 2008 & look where that got us. I bet politicians would like to go back & add details to the Bible, but only fools would fall for it! What was done was done. It ended with T2...
One of my wife's co-workers is a pontificating Bible-Thumping jacka$$ who was quoting the Bible verse about how the Word can not and never will be changed. I had been waiting for him to start preaching to me. I fired back a few questions at him that left him stammering (for once). 1. Is the commandment Thou Shalt Not Kill or Shalt Not Murder? Very different meanings depending on the original Hebrew translation. 2. How do you explain the NIV, isn't King James enough for one language? 3. Council of Nicaea, ever heard of it? There were deep divisions in what books to include in the early Church. 4. How do you explain the Catholic use of Apocrypha? 5. The Book of Jubilees pre-dates Jesus and was in wide use. Where exactly is it in the current Old Testament?
All good points, particularly #3. What ended up in the Bible was a bit of a hit and miss approach. The Dead Sea scrolls changed all that anyway. I get a kick out of the "numerologists" (for lack of a better term): The folks who count words and characters and based on that find all kinds of things in the Bible. Of course any of those predictions would collapse if you'd remove one single character, which is easily done by changing one of the translations or just by looking at the actual physical holes in the original texts. And to bring the thread back on track: At some point hopefully there will be several sequels to Avatar further expanding the storyline and giving us more insights into that world. Just as the Terminator sequels did/do or newly found discoveries in theological archaeology.

Despite what you might think I have nothing against religion in general and Christianity in particular. The questions I asked are all ones I have asked myself as I have attempted to understand how Christianity has evolved. I'm a bit baffled by the reinventing history comment though. I am sorry to hear that. I have no respect for people who hide behind anything, especially Christianity. Right behind that are the d-bags who hide behind their Fcar or Lambo (not you - not that I know of). To lightly answer some of your questions, the old testament bible was a set of rules that Christ superceded. PM me to avoid this thread being deleted. I don't have all the answers but I sure do try. I don't know if any of you recall, but Titanic was the most expensive movie made up until '97 ($175M I believe). Many predicted the same money-losing bomb and we know how that one turned out. I'm not sure but I think The Wizard of Oz also had the ignominious title of Most Expensive Movie Ever Made back in 1939. A few of us have seen that one too.
