Tried to post this before and was shut down. Just in case it did not post, I will try again. Around a month ago coming back from Florida, I stopped in a Wallmart in Manning, SC. A guy was loading shopping bags into a yellow Ferrari. I don't know much about the older cars but I would guess it was from the 60s. It had Florida tags, wire wheels and the number 60 on the right rear side window. I live near Philadelphia and I remember seeing a similar car around here four or five years ago - or maybe the same one. Why would anyone use an old Ferrari to go shopping? MP.
In the early 80s I remember seeing 166MM in Ft. Lauderdale being used to carry a Christmas tree home. Jeff
I'm thinking to get food or maybe booze. Could be both. Although sometimes I need a lotto ticket so that might be a consideration too.
well it is a car, and it functions as a car and can be taken out on public roads, to gas stations, theatres, stores, other places.
Hey, I drove my yellow 360 to the grocery store today. Had to limit the purchases to only 3 bags since my wife was with me (that's all that fits into the "boot").
Welcome aboard Michael! Contrary to popular belief, old Ferraris are quite usable cars, possibly moreso than modern ones. Here are some old pictures as examples: Old Ferrari used for Christmas tree shopping (Jeff - I hope the 166 was a coupe or the pine needles would have been in the drivers face... ) Old Ferrari at local health food store (the healthy alternative to Hybrids) Regards, Art S. Wow. I've lived in Ft Lauderdale since '56 and never realized we had a 166MM in our midst. We have had some old school Ferrari enthusiasts here though, going back to the days of Cressman, Baumgarten, Publicker, etc... Jack.
Actually you can lay a couple more bags sideways across the top of the 3 or 4 that are sitting verticle if you really need to load it. I used to take my yellow 360 to Costco all the time. Now I take my yellow 430.... it's really amazing how much stuff you can stuff in there when you need to
I used my old GTO for going to work, taking kids to school, raced it, hillclimbed it, vacationed in it, and if I had to park somewhere on the street, it got used so my 365GTC didn't get dinged! It had so much more trunk space than the LM. Well a bit anyway. We are only here once, so drive it. Or just buy a picture for the wall. Don
Michael, Now that we are all done *****ing about your 'use' comment, here is the car you saw: It is Bob Zambelli's 330 GTC. Oh, by the way, he has almost 200,000 miles on it - lots of shopping! Regards, Art S. Image Unavailable, Please Login
My Hero.. My sentiments .. My thoughts.. My attitude to cars. I just wished we shared car history!...
I can attest that not only does Bob Z. take his GTC shopping, it also "hauls" in other contexts. On a drive down the NY Thruway in 1986 to Lime Rock Park in CT, we were doing an indicated 135 mph when his radar detector went off. A NY Trooper was headed in the opposite direction, and apparently took little note of the bright yellow blur. That car is perfection itself! Fred
Hello, All. Finally responding to this thread - yep, that was me. I've lived in Manning since April, 2008 and have put quite a few miles on the GTC, now that: 1) I no longer have to drive it among the S/E PA drivers (who really scared me!) and 2) NO SALT ON THE ROAD! I can and do drive it all year. Furthermore, I have met a really fine bunch of people in SC who are most enthusiastic about thier cars - Porsche, Ferrari, Lamborghini, etc. I've even had the pleasure of helping out at one of the track events. Bob Z. Fred - how could you accuse me of such a thing - breaking the speed limit? Besides, I doubt that we were doing any more than 130!! The speed limit was 55 back then.
