I've been reading/posting in this thread since it started and it makes me wonder why this thread is so embraced while other on replica threads are shot down within the first couple post. I still don't know how I feel about the replica's or if I would buy one. For myself I really want an omega and I do not think a replica version would give me the same satisfaction as having the genuine article. I realize that the price difference from a RM to an omega is vast but the same principals would apply IMO.
thanks, i figure the watchden watch will come from china, and that our local small town post office will trash it when i go pick it up. oh well.
When I started this thread I thought it was gonna get shot down pretty fast. It did take a while to take off, but I thought there had to be some interest in these. No matter what type you get, be it a RM or a PAN, the discounts are huge and the visual differences are slim. To be honest, when I first started looking at reps I thought they were going to be complete junk and not worth anything. But, some of these things are really, pretty nice. I was amazed. About the Omega, if you don't mind used ones, you should check Ebay. I bought two used gens from there that were unbelievably cheap. Less than a replica, and they were both in near perfect condition.
I think you meant bigbigwatch.com but I know nothing about it - looks just like every other big replica site and comes back to an email address in China that is associated with counterfeit golf clubs and Gucci shoes among other things.
f355red - There are plenty of replica watch sites that are scammers. So only use the ones listed on the Replica forum's as "trusted dealers" such as WatchEden.com. Not worth trying to buy from someone who will not send the watch as pictured and you get the cheap $20 replica that none of the trusted dealers would touch. Asian1118 - Get the Omega replica, they are the best and look exactly like the genuines. They will give you truly 95% of the genuine. The quality is so good (I had one), after a while you just look at them as the real deal. I recently bought some genuine watches - A Perrelet, A Daniel JeanRichard, etc... and for the money the reps hold their own and bring almost as much excitement. Carreaper - Do NOT worry you will not have any problems with customs or the Post Office! the box will arrive or you'll have to sign the slip and they will redeliver to you once they get that slip. Trust me, you are golden. Please let us know when it arrives!
Here is a picture of a genuine Omega Seamaster (left) and a replica Seamaster Chronograph (right). The gen cost $1500 and the rep cost $230. You can't really compare them directly since the real chrono is slightly different than the real three-hander (different hands, face, bezel, crystal, and date wheel). The only parts that are the same between these genuine Omegas is the bracelet, and if you look at these, they can't be told apart. The rep has an automatic movement with correctly functioning chronos, and it actually keeps time better than the gen. The gen loses about 8 seconds per day, the rep is about 1 second per day fast. The gen is about 7 years old and the rep is about 2. Some of the better replicas are impossible to identify as such. I've seen several TAG reps that are essentially perfect, especially an Aquaracer Chrono and Carrera Racing Chrono that even under extreme scrutiny can't be told from genuine. Those are $300 replicas, however. The $100 versions have many inaccuracies. Image Unavailable, Please Login
The bracelets do look different. Each of the five pieces that make the band (across) are different. Basically there are five links: smooth metal, metal with two vertical line design, smooth metal, metal with two vertical line design, smooth metal. The outer two smooth metal pieces are narrower in the left photo. The center smooth metal piece looks wider in the left photo. The metal pieces with vertical line designs look wider on the left and the design itself has the two vertical lines separated more.
It is a replica 2599.80.00. This particular example was one of the first so-called "super reps" because it has no significant cosmetic or performance deviations from the original. It takes a very dedicated WIS (watch idiot savant) to spot it as a replica. I got mine secondhand from a watch forum member. It's an early version that is no longer made. All the later versions I've seen have flaws (most of them have the wrong datewheel font, the blue is way too dark, and the crystal is too thick making it look like a fishbowl from some angles). One funny thing is that the early-version Seamaster chrono is sought after by rep collectors and now often sell for more than when they were new. That's just an effect of the flash, a little dirt, and the angle of the bracelet being slightly different because the chrono case is much thicker than the other one. In person they are identical (even when examined using a loupe) and interchangeable. Even the internal latching mechanisms are identical.
You're welcome! - Love your avatar with all the Ferrari's in front of Biltmore! I'd love to tour that grandest of all houses!
I'll take your word for it! That's pretty impressive that they can get them to match 100%. I don't think I would ever buy a replica unless I already had an original so that the replica would take most of the use (sounds weird, I know). However, I really like the Patek 5102. I doubt a replica exists that is 100% matching since that would require the replica maker to purchase or somehow acquire the real one to reverse engineer ($250,000 watch).
I love that Patek too, and there are some replicas of the celestial but the ones I have looked at look kind of cheap in the photos, and none of them had all the functions of the original.
it is at the 07 ferrari cup challenge put on by the naples, fla club. we will be there in may 2010. check www.ferraricup.net ( i believe thats the address, search google if not) in late jan or feb for details. you would have a great time
just to be fair my watch arrived yesterday with no fuss. i dont think i will post pics, or say what it is. it was way better than i thought it would be , and i plan to buy just 2 more replicas, and i will be done.
Very cool! I just got an email confirming my payment for my latest purchase. They also told me that there is a 1-2 week delay in shipping because of Xmas/New Years.
The credit card process is a little scary, it made me a little nervous. I should have probably gotten a single use number for this one! The watch has shipped after two days, and I've gotten 2 notifications from them, so we'll see. One thing I see is that some watches are offered with a valjoux 7750 automatic movement. I have a Omega Seamaster Chrono that was $2500 second hand from a watch dealer with the same movement.
the one i have has the black pvd finish. its stunning. all i wanted was a black " divers type watch " and this is way better. i have a real version of one of the replicas i have. they even tick the same ( no difference by ear) .
