What are the differences or changes that were made between '83 QV's and '85 QV"s ? I had an '85 and a friend of mine is considering buying an '83 and was curious as to the differences. Any particular problems/weal links in '83's?

I think there is a minor difference in the injection system. I cant verify this, but I think that the 83s were different than the 84-85 Bosch system. Someone else who knows more needs to chime in on this though.

No rust proofing and they had a smog pump on the 83', not sure if 83's had 16" wheels.
84'-85' were identical and the more desireable of the QV series..

The motor was listed with 5 more HP (US) in '84 with a different tipo number. I've not read anywhere the actual differences. Early 83's came with the metric wheels. Otherwise, like others mentioned: one cat, no air pump, rust proofing, body color A pillars. If I were shopping, I'd get an 84 or 85.

Well, for those of us with 83's there has been discussion that the complexity added and the air injection issues with the later models were more of a hassle...I just disconnected my smog pump and it is coming out when my car goes to Competizione shortly.

Other than the lack of rustproofing on our 83's and the fact that we have (had for those of us who removed them with aftermarket pipes two CATS) however, I don't think it makes much of a difference. Buy the best example you can find and go drive it!

the difference between an 83 and 85 is very obvious
the 83 model was built in 1983
    and the 85 model
    was built in 1985
    lol

In addition to all the above mentioned differences -single cat, pillar colour,...-, there are a two belts for the alternator and water pump (one on the 83), the injectors seals are different, the air filter case has a different shape, the electronics are also different, and the plenum has throttle sensor position in the 85, as far as I know. In the interior there are some minor differences, like the defroster switch, a window style switch in the 84-85, a button in the 83.
For sure there are more differences in the engine, but I don't know exactly which ones.

The fuse cover in the 85 has aircraft latches. My 85's engine has 3 "V" belts, one for the alternator, one for the water pump and one for the AC compressor

The single belt setup isn't unique to the 83 model year. MANY 84's had it including mine ( I have since swapped to a two belt. FNA didn't even realize there was a problem with one belt until Dec 83.

It probably started life with one. A tech bulletin was sent out Dec 83 addressing the problem. Many cars were changed to a two belt setup with a kit at the dealer.

I changed mine (Jan 84) a couple years ago. A friend of mine has a May 84 with one belt.

    Just one of those things

Just different pulleys. Took me about 4 months to scrape together the "kit" for mine. The biggest problem was finding the crank pulley.

My '83 CIS injection is non-Lambda - (ie - no oxygen sensor - open loop) I installed 2 bungs in the collector pipes (there are 2 cats in the '83 vs 1 cat in the'85) to place an oxygen sensor when I check/adjust the fuel mixture.

bump for $20.00 bet that the A pillars on an 83 308GTs are supposed to be black. :)

We are poking fun at my euro 83 308 that was delivered a few hours ago.
