I have just noticed that over on the Vintage section on the Miles Davis thread. A guy in December 09 called Michael Call, posted pictures of the late famous jazz musicians Ferrari 348. I think he is the owner of the car now.
Miles was known to be an aficionado of Ferrari and had classic models like the 1967 275 GTB/4s ect. But he also owned this 348 beauty chassis number 87833 :D
The guys post is being ignored on the vintage section:( You know what there like, anything post 1969 isnt worth there attention  I cant allow this to go undocumented on the 348/355 section IMO. For anyone who does not know, Miles Davis epitomises all that is cool :D

    that is a pretty car!

Miles died in 1991; does anyone know how long he owned the car and/or how much he drove it? 348's came out in late 1989, I believe...

Actually the guys in vintage did notice... we just move at a slower pace. The car is very cool and has a great color.

    Regards,

    Art S.

Yes he died near the end of 1991 in September/October i believe. So the 348 would have been in production for over two and a half years while he was still alive.
Being that there is a chassis number, is there a 348 registry just like the 355 registry??

A friend of mine's Dad was Max Roach who played drums with Miles. My friend said Miles always used to come visit them at their house in New York in the 60s and every week he would be in a different exotic European car, Lamborghinis and Ferraris mainly though. He used to park them right on the street in Brooklyn.

I very much doubt Miles would have used or driven this 348 much given that it was so near to his passing. By all accounts he had dozens of cars but in his later years was too ill to drive. He probably bought it because he always loved Ferraris.

In my previous life as a NY saxophonist, I worked with several of the guys who worked with Miles during his day. I think Miles was deeply misunderstood and I was told he never thought of himself as cool. Miles was just a lucky kid when Dizzy Gillespie had him up on stage to play with he and the master, Charlie Parker. Miles did not have the technique to play some of Dizzy's arrangements so Dizzy gave him his blessing to not play those parts lol. All in all, Miles would not have been what the world knows had it not been for the "Kind of Blue" album (biggest selling jazz album of all time) and the staggeringly magnificent musicians Miles always had behind him. Cannonball, Coltrane, Philly Joe, Bill Evans, Wayne Shorter, Dave Holland, and the list goes on forever sort of like a who's who of jazz.

Miles was sort of an Enzo Ferrari in that respect. Enzo had the personality to woo the best engineers, drivers, craftsman, and create a sort of mystique about him and what he does that made everyone want to be involved with what he was doing, or loathe the man terribly! Miles was the same way, only he did it with many drugs starting in the '50s when nearly every big jazz guy was on something or other. Miles did create a mystique and said notable things (probably while high not able to recall what he said) that made him an interesting character.

Such a lovely colour, and it's yet another example that proves 348's look better with the black plastic bottom trim.

Very nice looking 348 - and I like that colour too! :D

I'll be spending the next 10 years drafting my application for ownership. By then it should be very well worded and I should have saved up enough for the car too. :D

    All the best,
    Andrew.

And now we know why Miles was so blue all the time! Timing belts, leaky roof, sticky console --- it was enough to make anyone sing the blues !!!!

We all think you're already a pretty cool cat, even without a 348 - yet.
