please tell me that "20" BLACK FERRARI 599 GTB FIORANO CHALL..." in the ads above, will NOT fit my 550 no matter what.......I can't afford to be seduced by them right now.......

James- You are safe. 599 wheels have a 5 X 114 mm bolt circle, your 550 has a 5 X 108 mm bolt circle. I have seen no adapters to fit 612, 599, California, or 458 wheels, all of which have the 5 X 114 mm bolt pattern, to our earlier cars. Does not mean they do not exist, just that I have not seen them. They would have to be a minimum of 25 mm in thickness to allow for the wheel bolts to reach sufficient thread depth. Here is something I have been working on with details on OEM wheels. Incomplete right now.

James- Show us how it looks. I am not partial to black wheels, but a lot of people are. I think there were some photos here somewhere of a Maranello with Challenge wheels, but they were probably 19 in wheels off a CS or 430, both of which will fit with rear spacers. Trouble is, they are too narrow by an inch in front and 1/2" in the rear. Even 599 front wheels are 1/2" narrower than Maranello wheels, except for the HGTE wheels.

James- Good job on the photoshop. Looks like a Ferrari Highway Patrol or FBI car in those colors. All it needs is a light bar on top.

    LOL.

Nope not a fan of a 4x4 Ferrari. Lamborghini sort of got away with it (I actually liked it) but they're allowed because they're nuts. ;)

Agreed... it makes the car look like a giant bruise.

That said, I'm rather biased because I'd never fit black wheels to any car. I'm firmly in the camp that believes wheels should always be a silver (not chrome) alloy colour.

    Nice Ferrari though. ;)

    All the best,
    Andrew.

Yes- why is that? I am exactly the same way. I just can't get used to the look of anything other than silver (ok the BMW hyper black isn't 100% silver but it's a variant for sure) on my cars, especially chrome. And I don't understand it because 3 of my cars have machined/polished dish rings and I think they look fantastic against the silver spokes.

Still- like Elle McPherson, it's a Ferrari and it looks good with anything on it.

    Cheers- Erik

I just think black wheels always make the car look dirty - as if the wheels are completely covered by brake dust. It just creates too much black with the wheel wells, the tyres, and the alloys all being black. Having a lighter colour for the alloy just breaks that up a bit and also lets you see the design of the alloy more clearly.

Nice analogy Eric - I counter with: "Ferrari looks better with silver wheels rather than black in much the same way as Elle McPherson looks better in a bikini rather than a black bin bag." ;)

She'd look good in both, but I know which one I'd rather see. :D

    All the best,
    Andrew.

THIII- Wheels are a matter of taste. I do not like any of the black wheels in your photos, or flat paint. You obviously do. There is no right or wrong, just differences in taste.

Variety is the spice of life, but none of your posted photos appeal to me.

I'm pretty sure that the boat is a Riva Aquarama, pretty much the Ferrari of mahogany runabouts. (and if you're ripping about the lake, the ladies will definitely need the scarf).

Getting back on topic, Taz is right, of course, it's a matter of personal taste. To me, the design of a wheel is one of the most eye-catching and often defining elements and dark colors take that element out of the mix or lower its impact.

Could not agree more with you guys: black looks dirty and it prevents one from observing all the lines and the true shape of an object.

Elle, one of the nicest Australian imports ever, even looked great with the 30 additional pounds she put on for the movie Sirens. If you have not seen it, the scenery is definitely worthwhile.

I still have some Riva magazines from the 70s or 80s, I think. They sent them free to all Ferrari owners for a while.
