I owned an 06 Vantage for 2 years before I bought my F430. Completely different cars. To me the Ferrari is more fun, but the Aston is more special. I miss the Aston, but am not ready to sell the 430, and can't afford 2 exspensive cars that depreciate like these do/have in the past 2 years. I never had a service problem with the Vantage, however, it only had 4k miles when it was sold. Definetly buy used when it comes to AM. If you want an Aston similar to the Vanquish but more up-to-date in technology and reliability try to find a DB9 with the sport pack option. I also would try to get a 6-speed. The sport shift transmission in the Aston is not one of the best. With all this being said, if AM decides to bring the V12 Vantage to the US I will be one of the first in line.

This clearly seems to be the case. Do any of you have good sources for used AMs you have used over the years that you have a high degree of trust in? I have never purchased a used exotic before from anybody, so I may have an unhealthly degree of paranoia.

One example. I was on the phone yesterday with a AM boutique dealer talking about an attractive 06 Vanquish S. Three previous owners. I asked if the maintenance history was available and if not, could they get it for me. They said this was difficult if not impossible. Could be true, but just didn't sound right. They encourage the PPI, etc.. so I'm not in any way casting dispersions on them, but it just didn't strike me right. Hence, any recommendations on people you have bought from before would be welcome.

As an aside, I was talking to two dealers about new cars (I generally like to support dealers as it has some advantages, but obviously not blindly if they are not helpful in the art of the deal), and as opposed to Ferrari, Lambo, Bentley, etc. I was suprised a little as to there willingness to engage in a "let's make a deal" conversation. None of those got to the point of getting a quote (one said they would provide one but I have not seen it yet) so I do not know how willing they are to move off list). Seems like with the depreciation in the first year, they are very overpiced at the dealer. Just some observations - please provide comments, recommendations ..... the earlier posts have been very informative for me so far. Thanks

I bought my "05 DB9 last year, already had a 2004 360 Spider (and still have), but never had an Aston, wanted to get a great deal on a car with a little higher miles, but wanted an Aston warranty in case the miles became a problem. I saved over $100,000 off the sticker price of the car, it had 25k miles and was a 1 owner bought and serviced from the dealer that I bought it from, they sent me ALL the service records before I bought it (and I didn't get a PPI), I absolutely love driving the car whenever I can....I don't understand being bored with this car as a previous post indicated. I would definitely get another used DB when the time comes, new Astons are crazy money and resale is terrible... just my .02 worth..

    Conrack,

Get the VIN and call your local dealer. They can tell you what service has been done, officially. The seller should know this.

I used to own a 2002 DB7 Vantage Volante and have been lucky enough to take Aston's performance driving school in Milbrook, UK and drove a Vanquish S, AMV8, and DB9. I also saw some of the last Vanquish being built in Gaydon/Newport Pagnell (I forget which factory built what) and the other two as well.

The Vanquish is a gorgeous car and was fun to drive. All 3 were amazing cars. My favorite was the AMV8 though and I plan to get one this year (along with an R8). My other drives are my 360 Spider, a Bentley GT Continental, and an S54 M Roadster. I have driven a few AMV8's and they are fun cars, though not as fast as the DB9 or Vanquish. I love them for the money. Lookswise, the Vanquish wins though, but comparing one Aston to another is like comparing one Victoria's Secret model to another (like Ferrari's of-course). You can't go wrong on looks, but on performance, they are all quite different, but all very good.

There's an awful lot of opinions on here, many of which are hearsay and prejudice from people who have never owned an Aston Martin.

I have two (89 Vantage Volante X pack and a DB7 Vantage) and have owned one of them for almost a decade. I also currently have a Porsche (Boxster S) and have had two Ferraris (328 and 550) one of which was great, one was cr@p.

    I'd go to

    http://www.amoc.org/

    or

    http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/forum.asp?h=0&f=70&mid=59321

and read the forum there if I were looking for informed comments from owners.

I just bought an Aston martain Vantage. I also have a Lambo Garlardo and a F430 to mention a few.

My Aston is only a 8 cylinder pushing 420 hp. I chose this over the 12 cylinder (510 hp) because of cost and you can only get a convertible in the lower hp model.

The model compared to the other cars we own is not very powerful nor does it have the taut vhandling. But is a very nice driver and the lower power did not bother me after a few miles in the car. I love the crystal "emotional control unit" that is used instead of a key. It sets the stage for a driving experience and reminds you that you are driving something special!

So far no trouble but I have not had it very long. If you buy one be sure to pay attension on how to release the emergency brake . It is different than other cars.

They are great cruising cars for gentleman. What surprised me was the repect given to the car and its owner buy other people. I like the car but not better than the exotics. I am happy with my purchase.

I would think the burden to prove up the history would be very, very much upon the seller with automobiles of this status. Its an exotic, known to be perhaps to be problematic and expensive to repair if there is trouble in paradise. Your not buying an F-150 and the history is very much tied to the value of the car. Either they would produce the records or the lack of the same should be reflected by a heavy discount in the price. There are a lot of Astons out there.

That is one of the best looking examples of a DB9 ever photographed. Wow. Licensed to thrill.
