I am now in the final lap of getting the engine out.......

However I have faced a problem.

Pls take a look at the enclosed photos and tell me how I am getting the shock towers down through the hole in the frame......they do not move although I have used a plastic hammer (gently) but no response at all.

Did I forget something????? What about the swaybar ???? I thought the wheel assembly would go down when the three nuts were taken off?????

Another thing......I have taken a few photos of might have been missed in your excellent guides......The bullet connctor to the starter have to be disconnected.......

My car has a connector to the upper left.

The coal cannister hose clamps looks like **** and I had to saw them off.

    All the best,

I'm not sure how similar the 348 is, but on the 355 the shocks stay there - the subframe unbolts from the body. So there's no need to mess with the shock mounting, and I assume the 348 is similar since it was designed for engine out belt changes.

    Bengt,

Your problem is that the 2 surfaces are rust-welded togather. You need to first spray anti-seize and then tap the bottoms of the towers with hammer and punch to loosen. The rust bond between the top of the tower and and suspension housing is strong enough to hold that whole subframe up! Yours will be especially tight when you consider the climate you live in.

Hi there, i took the motor out of my car this time last year so doing this from memory! and i have not put it back in yet.

The towers you have to remove 2 of the bolts and washers, there is also 4 bolts on the rear of the frame either side just below the exhaust i think?

The round plug just unplug like you have done, i would cut those clips off ( i did not have them as mine is a early uk car) yes remove the battery cable to the starter, i think there is also a earth cable on the lh side by the gear box ???

I had to remove the wires to the starter solenoid as mine had had a relay fitted close the starter motor.
    Think that’s it, good luck

Just thought I might have forgotten something.......but the rust-thing makes sense and if you add that the paint might not have been dry then it is glued together.....

    Thanks for your help.......

Bengt - another option with the vapor canister is to just disconnect it and lay it on top of the engine when it's lowered. I just left mine there while working, although I understand you may have cut the hoses off. Best of luck!

Okay I know this may sound silly but, did you remember to remove the 4 large bolts (two at each corner) at the bottom rear of the subframe? You don't need to remove the anti-sway bar, it stays attached to the subframe. As for the 3 nuts, you are correct, those get removed. But make sure you leave the 1 on that holds the shock to the towers.

Make sure you have the muffler disconnected and removed. The subframe will come out with the muffler still connected, but there is nothing to support it's weight. If you leave the muffler attached it will put unnecessary stress on the headers. So make sure you completely remove the muffler.

You need to have the bolts completely removed from the holes. Before you remove those bolts. Be sure to have the engine on the floor dolly, or whatever you are using for an engine cradle. Then take out the four bolts at the bottom rear, plus the 12 bolts (6 on each side) at the bottom front of the subframe. You need to have all the bolts completely out of the holes before the subframe will come out.

    Hey FBB,

Yes I've been part of the FCAOttawa chapter for 3 years now and we're the ones organizing it... this year I'm taking care of organizing the track day...

You can search in the Canada section for more info or visit www.fcaottawa.com. Alternatively, send me a PM with your address (or anyone who's interested for that matter) and I'll send you a promo DVD of the event.

Sorry for the thread hijack btw...

It is out ok......coming Friday a F-mech is coming to help me with the bits and pieces I have to order to make the 60 000 kms service.

I will take a photo as soon as I have the car in the ceiling agian....just to prove that I managed.......with yours and Paul´s help of course......

This was more fun than just taking the gear box out, which I did last winter.

Only God knows how much money I saved when I bought the lift.......

Thanks for your interest Ernie and all the best......
