Apparently they are offering all kinds of incentives (to the tune of 10K+) to purchase. I am guessing this is largely due to the fact that GM is ending their relationship with the company and chances are good they will no longer be sold in the U.S. I would also guess with that being the case warranty service and support will be non-existent. I would rather something else, but the wife has always liked Saabs and wants to look into it further. Personally I would rather her just go for a BMW 3 Series, but they have no incentives. Any opinions or experiences from those of you who own current models?

I have two SAABs. 1 a '00 9-3 convt and the other a '03 9-5 Aero. Both have been far from trouble free and both were purchased cpo. In fact the engine the 9-5 went cause the MAF sensor went and never threw a CEL. However I must say I love the 9-5, its faster in the mid-range than a 996t and stops faster then the same year M5. It also has a lot of features which arent found std on many $100k sedans.

As for the models currently made: I have had them all as loner cars for extended periods of time.

9-7x- well its not fooling anyone its a GM thus drives like a GM.
9-3- Nice little cars but the interior design gets annoying after a day and you begin to wonder why they didnt just make it normal.
9-5- compared to my 2003 MY they have made a number of changes. However the only positives that I was able to take away were the SAT radio, the wider tires, and better road isolation despite the wider tires.

Whatever your decision is I would just keep in mind that SAAB dealers (assuming they are dead) no longer have cars to sell. This means that w/in the period of ur factory warranty you will most likely have to have your car repaired at a chevrolet dealer. Hope this helped!

I've been given, loaned, and owned Saabs for a number of years. I currently own a '06 9-3 sedan. Mine seems to chew up rear pads (the old turbos ate front pads at an alarming rate) and the wipers/washer pump throws fits now and then. It buzzes inside (sounds like a muted alarm) and the interior plastic creaks more than your typical Audi or Bimmer. Plenty of snow around here at times and I really didn't want to get into an AWD maintenance program ($$$) so Audis, BMs and Mercs were out. Not a fan of Volvos or VWs, Audi fwds are rare around here. Saabs always felt like home, I love their interiors and colours, the turbo has punch, it shifts nicely and the ride/handling is surefooted but not as sharp as a Bimmer's. I'd say go for it, they're an unbelievable bargain right now new. Quite a few dealers were selling Saabs before the GM takeover and if you know of one locally, they'll probably look after service issues under warranty without any problem (if they are continuing to sell new alternate makes). I'd buy another one without question.
Still awaiting to hear the results from Spyker's second offer...

you begin to wonder why something hasn't gone wrong in a while and begin to think their really well made. Shortly thereafter is when the SAABing begins :( Though I swear that you can predict when something really awaful is about to happen if you see your MPGs begin to rise.

well from what I hear/read reliability is somewhat poor but surely they will cover warranty work on their cars until the warranties end. And surely there will be independent shops to work on them to. I think they're quite nice cars.

I've owned a couple Saabs in my years, some being '99 9-3, '03 9-3, and my family all drives them as well. From my eyes, they're very reliable, and built like tanks. I was in a head-on crash a number of years ago with a dump truck, and it smashed in the front end, but kept the passenger compartment relatively undamaged. Police said if i were driving any other car, It would've been death for me. I'd look into them for sure.

Forget them, saab is all you'll do with a GM SAAB!

SAAB's were wonderful cars, until GM bought the company and destroyed them!

I had a 2002 Saab 9-5 for a year. Nice car. I put 12,000 miles on it & had almost no problems.
The interior materials were a little chintzy, and the engine is buzzy at idle. Still I liked it. TONS of bells and whistles as standard equipment, fast and very stable.
Doesn't compare to BMW 3 series, but if you can get one for a steal, I say go for it.

agreed. some of those turbo saabs are pretty quick. if the money is right and you need a car it's not a bad option.
