A few of us were invited to drive the all new Ferrari 599 with the HGTE package on the track several weeks ago........ Wow....the car pulls like a freight train no matter where you point it. Very cool, and very sick. Handling wise, I can't compare it to the regular 599 since I never drove one before, but I was pretty impressed with the abilities of such a heavy car. It's obviously not a track car, and would be easily outgunned by cars that are more nimble, but it is a really great driving car for spirited touring driving.
That was FUN! The beauty of that setup is you can tear up the track in the morning and go the club at night..........in the same car.The car has two VERY different personalities. If you have a 599 I'd take a hard look at the HGTE set up.
Bill The only problem is that you would need new tires before going out - having no camber seems to be an issue
Comparing the 599 to the 599 HGTE: Like night and day on the track. The 599 had WAY too much body roll and the new shifting and the electronics just seemed to work better. I cannot comment on the brakes or tires as they were almost totally shot by the time I got to drive. My 599 has the carbon ceramics and the standard tires from delivery.
i drove the car on the track and my personal opinion- Great car to drive TO the track... plenty loose in the rear with traction control off. just tooooooo heavy to be very agile for me - of course you guys had cooked the brakes and destroyed the tires before I got there...
my GT3 was sitting there when I got out of the cooked 599 so no disapointment for me and dont worry about the repair bill - Ferrari of NA picks up the tab for your indescretions and in turn you pay handsomely for all you derive from them... after all the world is round -
Agreed.......see my first post "It's obviously not a track car, and would be easily outgunned by cars that are more nimble, but it is a really great driving car for spirited touring driving." As for the brakes & tires..........well, you got the idea!! LOL!
