+100 Nobody really knows what USf1 is planning, they seem to be throwing all these drivers and dates up in the air.....and now they are getting burned for it. I can count a dozen respectable US open wheel racers who could be signed with the team. (Marco Andretti, Scott Speed, etc...) I guess they realize that there is really nothing secure in F1. Let them learn the hard way, and we will see the results come March.
You are right. Prodrive would work their arses off. It almost looks like Bernie knew that Petey would not make it, so he set him up to fail (that give Bernie a lot of credit, but he is a vindictive little b-tard.) Also, Bernie can say that he 'gave America a chance." I think they'd be better off coming clean right now, instead of letting it fester.
Peter will never come clean. He's already started to make up excuses... thus far, it is the fault of Cosworth and the nation of Great Britain. The former for being slow with the engine, and the latter for taking too much time off around the holidays and stunting USF1's growth plans. It's funny... Windsor is British. I lived there a number of years and I know they all take a fair amount of time off around Xmas and New Year. Windsor didn't know that? Of course he did... so it's another excuse. And when excuses flow, BS is sure to follow.
FWIW, the selection process was rather extensive and while Prodrive is a credible racing entity I'm not sure how serious they were about it this time. I'm not sure they'd even have space in their facility
Richards was shall we say, 'not the flavour of the month' with Mr E nor the FiA (Maxxx) at the time of selection. He certainly had/has better credentials than most of the newbie picks. last thing the powers that be wanted was another independent voice in the mix, hence the political rejection.
Wasn't there a quote of PeeWee's about having a stack of applications frpom experienced F1 types to work for USF1? Seems they must have not worked out as the Jobs on Autosport.com lists the same vacancies as before only this time via a recruiter!
more hot air? are they afraid to initally test with the teams and have their times shared??? If Pee Wee hates part of his job, why the hell is he in such a position?? not much sense there... Carol autosport The US F1 team will run its car for the first time at the Barber Motorsport Park in Alabama next month. The Charlotte-based squad has confirmed its car will have an American debut before it travels to Europe to begin testing ahead of its maiden Formula 1 season. "Because we are a new team and start everything from zero the first time we will run the car will be in the United States at the Barber Motorsport Park in Alabama, the circuit that was nominated by the FIA for us," sporting director Peter Windsor told the official Formula 1 website. "We've got the dispensation from the FIA, which is fantastic, because we are not based in Europe. We are the only team that does have a test circuit outside Europe, so it is totally logical for us that we run the car the first time in the US at the beginning of February." Windsor said the team is allowed to carry out three testing sessions in the US, but will then fly to Spain to join its rivals. He added that US F1 is on the verge of announcing its drivers for the upcoming season. "We are very close to announcing our drivers," he said. "We've been talking to some great racing drivers over the last couple of months - and it is very difficult choosing from the good drivers that are around. "I think there are still a lot and the difficult thing is to choose only two out of ten that are available. It's a difficult job and I hate having to do that. We have not signed our forward deals yet in terms of the contracts, but we are pretty near to announcing."
true and this means they can't run in Spain for these test dates correct? 01 February Circuito Ricardo Tormo 02 February Circuito Ricardo Tormo 03 February Circuito Ricardo Tormo that gives them less than a week to run the remainder of the FIA listed test dates - did you notice driver announcement pending - that's probably dependent on who brings the biggest cash flow to the table? I'm surprised Pee Wee didn't think enough to make use of Autosport International next week - perhaps they need a new pr person! This in another article: Windsor added that the maiden test will take place "at the beginning of February", but was not more specific. He said the FIA dispensation allows for three tests in the US, before the car is shipped to Spain "to do some testing there before we fly out to Bahrain". It has been reported in recent days that Argentine driver Jose Maria Lopez is close to finalising his sponsorship package for one USF1 race seat, while the Briton James Rossiter is rumoured to be in contention for the other. On the flip side if USF1 does test at Barber perhaps thee will be improvements made there to allow a return of a USGP race.
Are USF1 already testing? There's a Malibu Grand Prix in Norcross, Georgia. Who knew? Image Unavailable, Please Login
I was thinking that as well - Maybe post in the AL forum? How's security at that track? - Can you get thru' the fence anywhere? *Many* years ago I had a job based inside Silverstone and if anyone was testing anything "interesting" we used to drive over the bridge, into the pits and check 'em out - We obviously had a "go anywhere, anytime, pass". This day, Brabham, with Piquet driving attracted our attention - I swear to this day that Bernie's lackey's that stopped us going over the bridge were packing "We just want to go the BRDC for lunch" we said. "Not today" they said, and I *know* they meant it We did drive out to Stowe and watch for a while - This was in the days of skirts and he was *flat* thru Stowe & Club - It was almost surreal...... Cheers, Ian
I have been to Canada a few times skiing in -30 yes I know ls... But here no one can cope it's hopeless..
LOL, must be the same web page designer. Anyway, Rossiter is actually a good enough pick for a back end team. Nothing too fancy, but not bad either. That is if they get him. That Lopez guy however is a total joke and shouldn't be given a super license. At best he'll be another Schlesser (Senna in Monza anybody?) or at worst another Mass in Zolder (RIP Villeneuve).
hiring 2 young, unexperienced, and paying drivers... That kinda pretty much says it all. We might have here our back end of the grid team of the upcoming season.
