sorry for the teaser subject line. just trying to get some eyeballs on my thread to get a wide consensus. Since I have owned my 355 (96 355gts 3rd owner), every time I unscrew the gas cap it's like i'm breaking open a hyperbaric chamber and air--very loudly and quickly-- SUCKS INTO the filler tube as I finish unscrewing the gas cap and the pressure equalizes between the clearly lower pressure in the tank. Is this normal? Does everyone experience this or do I have a gas tank ventilation problem. I'm glad it's a screw cap style because if it wasn't I might have to use a crow bar to get the cap off judging by the pressure delta. Anyway, I appreciate any feedback anyone can give me. It's the only car I've ever owned (high performance or not) that has this "feature". As always, thank you in advance for reading my thread and for any advice you can give.

Its totally normal.Mine does it too.
Its a safety system if the car get up side down in a crash not to get on fire!

Very strange ... the air should go the other way, and flow OUT OF the filler tube due to the higher pressure in the tank.

    Thats funny....my 348 blows.

lots of pressure in the tank wants to blow the cap off when I remove it.

It is for emissions.....not safety. All cars have a sealed fuel system and depending on how it is designed and the conditions at that moment it can have a little vacuum or a little pressure.

I learned early on not to over tighten or else you'll make youtube as 'Ferrari owner can't open gas cap'

I believe mine (355) is sucking (not blowing) and it really takes a looooong time for the sound to stop. Seems excessive to me and I worry about collapsing the tank from too much vacuum. My Saab has a properly functioning sealed system and does not noticeably blow or suck.

No, it was the car exhaling a sigh of relief that it is not going to die of thirst because you are about to quench its thirst :)
