Anybody know where 0627 is now? Started life as a Boano, given California bodywork by Scaglietti 1959. Then registered as 1960 Ferrari. Rich
And very often seen in East Molesely in Surrey to be specific. That's where it gets looked after. Nice looking car even with all the stories. I used to admire it regularly when my car was next to it in Kevin's shop. Darren.
I was told James Cagney was the first owner when I bought it from Flint British Motors in 1971 or 1972. Maybe that legend was started by that slick salesman who sold it to me. It did have a cramped cockpit. If you Google Ferrari 0627, Sheehan has a vague history which states Cagney was first owner when it had its Boano body. I don't know where his information came from, but that legend was still with it at Kruse and Barrett Jackson in '98? and '99? When I had it it was titled as a 1960. Rich
I can only repeat it again and again: The first owner of Boano 0627 GT was an Italian resident in Varese, who bought it February 1957. I have the paperwork to prove this. It remained a regular Boano for more than 2 years. Following its conversion into a Spider it was first registered in Arizona/USA in 1960. 26 February 1965 title was issued for Greg Lambert of Hornell, NY. And on and on............! Marcel Massini

So is it known as a Boano or a California when shown at concourses? Is it valued as a Boano? A California?
Again: it is a rebodied Boano. Certainly NOT a California. The car was born in February 1957, the rebody took place three years later. Marcel Massini
That Scaglietti rebodied 0627 in period certainly makes it interesting. May I ask your opinion on the fact that Scaglietti did the work, whether 0627 will be structurally and mechanically very similar and up to the same standard as a real LWB California?
Sergio said he did a rebody on a crashed car very early on. "Three years later" would be way too late.
Was the “rebody” Factory approved/sanctioned or independent commission and would the current configuration and alleged date of its creation (3 years later ?) qualify the car as a period rebodied or fake/recreation/replica/etc. Cal. Spdr. ? Just curious.
Exactly, Sergio said the rebody was maybe the 2nd or 3rd Cal Spider built, but I think that would be a little too early. It seems however, that the car was converted in period from late 1958 to early 1959, so I don't see a serious conflict here. Cal Spider production cars started coming out in summer of 1958.
The car has been in this state for 60 years of its 63 year existence--why touch it? It was rebodied(by Scaglietti) while the California Spyder was still in production, I say call it a period rebody and leave it at that.
I would not see it as a replica, but as a unique speciale, like many of the speciale that were made with the base and the engine of average ferraris, but updated in a unique and superior work that are now worth much more than their " ordinary brothers " the car was practically rebodied by sergio scaglietti at the same time of the original california spyder`s and using the chassis and engine of an authentic ferrari, and it was only 2 or 3 years after the car was born so for me it is not sanction car nor replica, but a unique and authentic speciale in my opinion it should be much more expensive than an average boano but much cheaper than an original california spyder, a much cheaper alternative and quite similar to the california spyder I would like to know what value could this car currently have, Mr. Marcel Massini thanks
