PF confirmed that the chassis, engine and gearbox that they used to build "P5" recently and that was sold to a Japanese Collector was it's original chassis, engine and gearbox that they discovered in their warehouse and that 0862's chassis was never used to build P5.

Thanks for the details. P5 represents to my eye an interesting evolution of the 'P' car series design theme.

Is this car being sold by private treaty? I can't find it in RM Auction's Arizona sale.

I am truly glad you stated this. I thought I was going crazy.

Due to your hospitality at the intro of P4/5 in Pebble Beach, I had the good fortune to meet Andrea. I asked him this question, P5 is one of my favorite of all Ferrari show cars, I thought he said the car in Japan is as original as it can get except the body was new from original wooden bucks.

Unfortunetly my memory got blasted after that, so I could not be sure this is what he said or what I imagined. Thanks for giving me some clarity.

Would it be a fair assumption to say that it is the Japanese P5 that can be seen at Classiche in the 2008 yearbook?
Does anyone have recent photo's of it?

    Hi

Yes that is the article that RM hung their hat on but it's wrong. I saw the photo's in the PF archives and there's no question that the chassis engine and gearbox remained with PF and were stored in their warehouse until they built up the one that's now in Japan.

I saw period photo's of the chassis, engine and gearbox, storage photo's of the chassis, engine and gearbox, and more recent photo's of the chassis, engine and gearbox.

Some of those photo's are in the 0846 papers. I alerted PF to the RM auction claims and they told me they were going to send RM a letter from their legal department but I don't know if they did.

    Best To You and Yours!

Yes. The Japanese owner was discussing having it made into a running car but I don't think that happened.

Forgetting for the moment, the financial obstacle, I could not own that car and have it not be a running, drivable automobile.

    Different cultures, I suppose...?

Interesting question. I discussed Modulo with Andrea and the same issue came up. Modulo was never a functioning car and truning it into one would take a LOT of work and engineering. Modulo is a piece of History but it's not a car. If Andrea was still alive who knows what roads we would have travelled together.

Dino Competizione was the last PF Prototype Ferrari to be a fully functioning car.

    As Neil sang:

    Long may she run!

I guess it was good that I didn't know they weren't "real cars" at the time (when P5, 512S and Modulo were released to the public). Even then (at 14-16 years old) I couldn't imagine the Modulo turning its front wheels to negotiate a curve.

Of those three (3), it's 512S that does it most for me; I'd be quite the fan if you could've pulled that off! I don't know how my wife would take me telling her we're moving to NY, instead of Florida.

    :)

512S is in private hands, disassembled for a while, trying to make her a runner? Currently not for sale AFAIK.

IMHO, one of the most beautiful concepts ever by Pininfarina!

    Thank you Wayne!
It remains to be seen if Ferrari will continue to re-invent the old Pininfarina styling look for new models. Now that Ferrari have appointed their own 'style guy' to interpret the new Ferrari look; he faces some formidable history on the classic Pininfarina design side.

I love everything about the P5. Do we know the owner of the replica P5?

Perhaps the same gentleman that owns the Abarth 2000 prototipo that is, in fact, a runner at Gallery Abarth?

Can anyone confirm this for me?
