I like that cross linked pre and post season rankings. I'm happy ending at #19 for Miami. If we had won the bowl game we would have probably ended around #13 or so. That would mean that we would certainly lose early in the season next year, so that's no good. Notre Dame will be preseason #18 next year is my guess. With a new coach and such a great team how could they lose AGAIN??? BT
I would be very surprised if NFL coaches had a lighter workload than college coaches, but I have no real-world knowledge to base that belief on. I suspect that neither option leaves much room for a personal life.
I ran into Paul Finbaum and Derric Lassic outside the stadium. I felt like that was a good omen. Back in 92 I ran into Finbaum right before the game as well. I'll say one thing, I am damn glad to be out here right now. It's 72 aned sunny. Back home IN THE SOUTH it's like 14 or something.

I guess there are in-essence two types of upper-tier college football coaches at prominent programs, the: Bowden (FSU), Paterno (PSU), Osborne (Neb), Edwards (BYU), Bill Snyder (KSU), Bryant ('Bama), Royal (Texas), Neyland (TN), etc' types... .. and the Schnellenberger (Miami), Johnson (Miami), Erickson (Miami), Davis (Miami), Spurrier (FL), Saban (LSU), Carroll (USC), etc' types who are looking for different challenges or better pay-days! Speaking of which, wasn't Jon Gruden being mentioned for the Notre Dame, Tennessee, UCLA, and Oregon jobs (as well as many others) the past few years? His name no longer seems to come up. I wonder if Troy will make a pitch to Jeff Fisher of the Titans, lolz! I know Fisher is a bit tired of the NFL grind, the ownership (Bud Adams & company), and not overly enthused in likely now having to go on w/ V. Young as the starter. Fisher has close ties to USC being an alumnist, former player, hiring 'SCs Norm Chow as offensive coordinator, wanting to draft Leinart, and also being pals w/ Carroll. . . You know what, I'm also not too familiar w/ pro' head-coaching routine/regimen, outside of the regular season & training-camp/pre-season. I've heard & read of two extremes: guys like Joe Gibbs & Bill Walsh putting in 20hrs per-day during the season & 12-16hrs per-day in the off-season, and then guys like Don Shula & Barry Switzer being more administrative/managerial w/ literally a 9-5 routine during the season, w/ ample golf, fishing, hunting, and restauranteering/hosting [sic]. . . Supposedly $7million/year for 5years, and that's reported to be $2million more per-year than he currently earns. . . EDIT: supposedly, a sticking point is role of head-coach AND president vs. head-coach w/ separate GM TBD later.

As one of the few Red Raiders here (I think jungathart might be the other one?) I think this is good IF he leaves the "air raid" spread offense alone and fixes the defense. Big 12 offense with an SEC style defense won't be a bad thing. Now that a coach has been named it is easier to cope with the loss of coach leach.

Still don't think you guys will recover. Leach was an "equalizer" and then some as his offensive mind was SO brilliant (one of the best in the history of CFB IMO) that he could keep Tech in ANY game against any opponent. Tuberville is a yawn of a hire IMO. Nebraska fans were relieved to see Leach go and they will be just as relieved that Tech hired a retread like Tuberville.
Alright flight landed two hours ago getting back from LA. Tide Fans=great: I was pleasantly surprised with how nice everyone was save the random drunk idiots and would be happy to play against them again in the future. Game would have been different with McCoy: Not saying we would have won, but hell would freeze over before McCoy would have five turnovers in that game. On that note... Alabama are the National Champions: Some people may make stupid arguments saying they don't deserve it, and I know that I'll be questioning what might have been for years to come. However Alabama won the game fair and square and they are National Champs. They played great all year and we just flat out didn't get it done Thursday, regardless of the circumstances. As a college football fan I don't understand people like sparta49 or any other 'SEC pride' idiot out there. There is no way you'd catch any Texas fan in that stadium Thursday night chanting "Big 12" had we won. The fact that SEC homers take as much, if not more pride in their rivals winning championships rather than their own school completely contradicts the definition. There is no way I'd relish and gloat after a Texas Tech, Oklahoma, OSU, A&M, Nebraska, or any other Big 12 national title. Next year hoping Gilbert can lead us to contend for the Big 12 title, doubt we'll be in the hunt for all the marbles. Not only do I agree but I, along with 95% of the other Husker fans I know, wanted to see the 'Horns get SMASHED by Bama. And I am sure that the 'Horns fans would have felt the same way had we been in the same position.
Last time I checked McCoy was there and started the game, little Nancy boy couldn't handle the hitting that goes on in the SEC. Texas got beat like a drum. Bama didn't even have to bother trying to pass the ball. They played the game with only half a offense and Texas still lost by double digits. Had Nancy McCoy faced a little tougher competition all year maybe he wouldn't have broken a nail and had to sit on the bench for the most important game he has been in so far.
I was extremely dissappointed with Mack Brown, who claimed after the game that if McCoy had been in that the game "wouldn't have even been close," as if he didn't notice that Bama never even bothered to throw the deep ball to Julio Jones, that Bama was only needing to call linebacker blitzes instead of safety and corner blitzes, and that Alabama ended the game by taking a knee on clean uniforms that Texas couldn't even get dirty on the grass. Bama didn't even break a sweat, and the players stayed up all night after the game because they weren't even tired. I was already re-evaluating my opinion of Mack Brown when he called the shuffle pass at the end of the 1st half. He was deep in his own territory, and the *correct* strategy at that point was to simply get his new QB as many snaps as he could before the half in order to get him "into the game." Instead, Mack Brown gives a halftime interview and a post game interview about wanting to "throw the deep ball" with his new QB! What an idiot. Instead of warming up his new QB with a gift-wrapped series of downs at the end of the half, Mack Brown was acting as though the kid could just step in and beat the best defense in the nation! Mind boggling. Mack Brown *blew* a warm-up series by going for points, deep in his own territory with a Freshman QB who had never taken a snap, in the National Championship game! Guys, that's the stuff of idiotic sports reporters, not real coaches. Sports commentators are forever going to be pretending that they can and should score at any time; good coaches know better.
