Cam pulley spot welds

Good evening everyone,

I am in the process of a major service on my Mondial t and had read somewhere about spot welding the 'guides' on the cam pulleys. I have tried looking for a thread as I am sure that someone has already written about this issue. I checked mine and the only one that is loose at the moment is the intake pulley on bank 1-4. I do intend in spot welding all of them but was looking for a recomendation as to how many welds etc. Could anyone please guide me to the thread that talks about this?

Jamie - I think Daniel with Ricambi had pulley "fence" failures and posted several times about spot welding his fences with (I believe) 3 TIG spot welds on each fence (120deg apart). I'm sure Daniel would be happy to discuss with you. I think a key precaution is to make sure that timing belt(s) don't ride on these fences after you have installed them. IE, turn the engine over by hand for a time and see where the belts ride. If they ride on the fences, I'd check for reasons why... ie, tensioner bearing play, or other alignment problems. Hope this helps (I also couldn't find a thread).

 

just spot weld it. i did all of mine for the "just in case" and did 4-5 welds. doesn't have to be tig, i migged mine and just ground down any excess. do it on the side the belt does not run on. simple easy --hard to screw up.

 

This isn't just an issue with the cam gears, of course. There's also a fence on the lower gear that can come loose and destroy the belt.

 

I am going to weld all mine up (if they havent already been done) when I pull the engine out to do my major service.
