Mate, I think you miss the point.... tracking a car is to learn to better ones own skills at driving their cars at theirs and the cars limits- this translates to a far greater appreciation of what the car can do rather than just saying it looks nice and sounds good and has this exhaust or that carbon fibre thinggy with those sticky tires. Track days are not intended for racing or testosterone gathering- those that do end up getting their cars towed back usually....and in pieces.... in fact racing is strictly prohibited at track days and that any people found racing will be black flagged.

The lap time in isolation is showing if you are improving as a driver.... it is not intended as a barometer of your driving prowess or race talk- there will always be a faster better driver out there.... its about learning your way around the car and appreciating the car as a high performance instrument and not treating it as a work of art (even though a Ferrari may be considered that).

Racing that you refer to is for those who are more interested in proving themselves against others in a competitive environment. Two completely different things.....

If one chooses to cruise orchard road and get high with blasts of the exhaust that really is only the tip of the ice berg as to what these cars are really about.... I will stick to cruising Orchard in my X5 until I can afford my Bentley.... but at least i will also do so in the knowledge that I can handle these cars on public roads should I find myself in a spot of bother be it aquaplaning etc....

and I say the Porsche is the superior car..... different strokes for different folks.... just like Des and MP.... :D

But seriously, Ferrari's are lovely cars.... and I will get one again at some time but will keep it nicely polished and away from the track. I would feel too much heart ache beating up on a Ferrari and also be a bit worried that it would break down at the track.

In fact one of my good mate has a car for various occassions too- he runs a 430 and sometimes 599 for his "hotel function" events, his 997TT for daily use, and the 997 GT3CS purely for visits to Sepang.

Weng has his cup cars for his super hard core adrenaline rush, and the 599 for cruising Orchard Rd, another mate runs a 599 for daily use and his Aston Cups for his adrenaline rush. And Des has found true love in the Aston (I actually stilll feel its the best of everything... maybe its the darn looks that get me deep).

Just shows that each car has a function in life :)

Mate, MP is one competitive dude.... you know he used to be a top shelf competitor at using bullets and guns (no he wasn't an assassin and no we are not referring to anything anatomical here). hahaha.

but think that age has finally caught up on him and he has to be content to sipping champagne on big fat dinghy's... hahaha

That was an evil myth perpetrated by a disgruntled Ferrari owner. Or it was one of the few Porsches that had driven through Maranello and caught the Ferrari bug. :D Or could also be the lambo bug.... have you seen the number of Gallardo's caught on u tube doing the spontaneous combustion thinggy!!!!???

officially cannot test drive but they always have a demo car which you can "borrow" for a stretch...

none whatsoever bro; always enjoy exchanging views with people who are passionate and have their own opinions.

from what u say, u seem to suggest that if u own a ferrari or porsche, u hv to track it or else you r not doing justice to yourself or the car. road cars r primarily for the road . thats why your insurance doesnt cover track incidents.

as i said , as a non trekkie, i guess i can never really appreciate racing against the clock as opposed to the adrenaline rush that comes from racing other cars (i guess, being a non-racer either).besides ,tracking one's car regularly is a seriously expensive n time consuming exercise n considering the norm is to tweak your car further n further , can u really quantify how much faster u (as opposed to the car) hv become? and at what cost n to what degree of compromise to normal road driving set-up? also memorising the track, best turn in/braking point , all the little nuances of each corner etc, to me is a bit too clinical n specific .is it wholly relevant to driving generally n at other tracks / conditions ? of course practice makes perfect n continually driving hard round a track makes u learn the limits of your car and make u a better track driver, but i dont think thats the be all n end all.

dont get me wrong,im all for the occasional track day and lessons from a pro at the track, but tracking surely cannot be the raison detre for exotic car ownership- sometimes pose pose also shiok ma

36/40 but I don't think it's the air pressure as the bouncing ride only came in twice on certain stretch of NS & pretty bad. Bounces fast, split seconds. I had to slow down then it was all good again.

I did another 120km night run to Sepang & back again without any issue. So, it could be road condition but the way the shocks handled it baffles me.

Harold, I'm not so fortunate so I can only afford one @ a time & even so, I believe that all cars can be driven spiritedly. More so when it's an exotic, afterall which sportscar makers don't send their new models to the track to prove themselves these days?

The Murcie is not a good trackcar but it's the joy of swinging it's big tail around without endangering others other than eating grass & pebbles should you over do it. I also love taking it on long drives in Malaysia so it's not just a poster car. Hell, I was even tempted to take my tiptronic 964 cabriolet to Sepang too!

There was a guy here who used to race his vintage mini in Sepang just few years ago & it's not that he can't afford a 599. Which lead me to think, my ex-M5 which cost only one fifth my 997 yet performs 90% of what the latter can do @ 1/5th the price & it has a proper boot that can swallow anything I give it. Hmmmmm.

Timing aside, it's good to learn one's skills & vehicle's capability on track. Throw me anything, my vespa or even a truck & I'll be happy to take a few rounds in each if given a chance.

Getting too analytical is too much science for me. I'd just pick the key & go!

    Well, that's just me.

yup agreed Des, no point in taking chances

Yup I must buy myself a 2nd toy!

As you say it could be any one of a thousand things, which is always the worry with these wang-fangled gearboxes. My only other concern is that my notorious water leakage has damaged something it shouldn't.
