Schuey running around 1:39.419 in the GP2 car. record is 1:38.2 set by Hiedfeld. No doubt this will be interesting.
What gets me is this time is in a GP2 car. That's just nuts as they are 88kg heavier spec with driver, and have a couple hundred bhp less.
I said it in another thread for those of you who didn't get to see him race in Vegas in November... "He's still got it!"
Heidfelt's time was set in a GP2 car then I suppose? because the Jerez lap record is in the 1.17s or so. That means schumacher is 1.2 back on Heidfelt...However it was cold and windy, so not ideal (far less grip) than what I presume the lap record was set in).

Or Not. So mad about him joining Merc. To think that we paid him $5M a year to just consult for the last three years he was supposed to be retired. What a waist of $15M Luca.
Luca shouldn't have "retired" him then should he? He obviously didn't want to quit & if he hadn't he'd probably have had two more WDCs
Pitpass claims the test was very wet and had to be stopped early. Only the beginning of the test was dry with cloudy skies. http://pitpass.com/fes_php/pitpass_news_item.php?fes_art_id=39761 That would seem to account for his time being well below GP2 norms. Mark
He was very lucky to win it - McLaren practically gifted it to him. I have little doubt Schumacher would have beaten Hamilton in 2008 too & with his development input the 2009 car would have been much better and at the very least competitive. Ferrari have paid a very heavy price for Luca's mistake on this one (and I have never been the greatest fan of MS by the way).
http://pitpass.com/fes_php/pitpass_news_item.php?fes_art_id=39759 First I've read of the "piece of sh**" f60 comments.
Well if Ferrari made his car a tad more reliable he would still have won it. He retired twice due to mechanical problems, hambone retired once due to error by him (or team, whatever it was I don't know. He was at the wheel and could just have driven into the pit IMO), no mechanical problems.
Twit pic someone took on scene and posted on twitter. My posting is a duplicate from another site announcing his time. They stand corrected regarding Hiedfeld's record setting lap time being a motoGP lap time rather than a GP2 or F1 lap time (gee, thanks for being accurate in the first place!). The official track record is around 1.21. Schuey managed 52 laps in cruddy conditions in a new car. GP2 times are considerably faster (1.26ish).
here's another link - wow, now I'm even excited for F1 to start http://uk.eurosport.yahoo.com/12012010/58/michael-schumacher-completes-gp2-test.html here's a link to photos http://f1.gpupdate.net/en/test-sessions/2010/01/12/photos/circuito_permanente_de_jerez/4664/ Carol
I guess we now know that's wrong. But I'd call that slow, not fast! The real reason I'm adding to this is to say, you can't tell anything from a single driver. You always needs someone else in the same car to compare to.
I am looking forward to an actual good weather day. Today was a mess. For those who did not see my last post. GP2 average lap 1.25-1.29. Hiedfeld's lap this was compared to was on a moto GP bike! The site I found the lap time on misprinted it as well. Schuey is still a bit off, but I think he will wittle it down quite a bit.
Here we go again!. So what was the exact threat made against Schumacher By LDM that forced him to retire?. Lets try and make this simple: Schumacher is a grown man!. If he really did not want to retire, he could have gone to any other team on the grid at the time and continued racing and there was nothing Ferrari or LDM could have done to stop him! Please feel free to argue against this statement but I think you're going to struggle!.
You cannot take this time to mean anything really. It was his first time in this development car, with parts and settings being changed over the course of the test, which took place during less-than-perfect conditions. It was nothing more than "getting back on the horse" and the times are totally useless. So what's a decent time for a wet GP2 qualifying lap at that place?
