I definitely back up this from Mike - same with us, many friends in many countries and American = USA.

sure Brian, let us sublet and heck, let's test!!! we can use "The Rock" (Rockingham Raceway) for our testing (since we can only straight line test) and while testing we can get great abundance of PR on Speed with Mr. Varsha when we invite the Pinks delegation to run against us and on ESPN when our new PR person John Force comes on board.. "The Rock" is only 80 miles east of our new team quarters so we can just go to U-Haul and rent a couple trucks and then we're off to test. We have lots of places to park our trucks, sell toasters (we would have many concession stands according to the map) . here's our layout map http://www.rockinghamdragway.com/track_map/

We will have to coordinate our skeds as the facility is already booked for the weekends. We also will need to go to IKEA and get us some neat things to provide our facility with a more welcome feeling for our visitors, most especially when Steve comes to put us on tv. Our purchasing agent will need to be sure we all have quite lovely polos with our logo embroidered on each. I suggest that because we will be a working facility, that we do away with kahki color pants and go with navy or black. We will need to frame any art work on the walls and perhaps order some cool posters from Speedgear. I've got a lead on our team transporter/motor home - the district were I worked is purchasing new busses so we can pick one up pretty cheap and retrofit it to our needs - we can have our choice of flat front or conventional.

We will need to go public with our team members soon and we've already had many inquiries from aspiring drivers.

Mr. E will be so proud of us that the checks will come flying into our office! We offer him something that the other outfit doesn't ..... that valuable TV time - our team will provide several stations along with our live internet coverage (we have an appointment with SRO so Mr. Ratel can tell us they do it in another FIA series).

Brian, this is getting exciting again!!

    Carol

damn.....I got so excited that I forgot we don't have a car...yet anyway

I have seen better acting in adult movies.

Then again that's an unfair comparison: Those movies have bigger budgets...

I think deep down the thing that really hurts is that with the name of the team being US F1, one cannot help but associate this trainwreck with the US. Us Americans by association are being made to look idiotic!

I personally hate having a laughingstock team with my country's name on it!!!

Whatever the outcome of the fate of USF1 if the net result is less air time for PeeWee on Speed TV, then we have already hugely benefitted.

If we get a US race team on top of that, that's gravy.

Is it just me or doesn't this look like a tombstone?

    All that's missing are some years engraved: 2009 - 2010 ;)

In fact the whole scenery reminds me more of a cemetery than anything.

oops, I must have forgotten about that.

And who can forget an American (Massa) almost won the WDC against Hamilton in 08, and another American came close this year (Barrichello).

Who can forget one of the all-time great American drivers, Ayrton Senna!

You don't think he will be back on the grid if things fall through with USF1?

    I think he will be.

I bet he is keeping as many irons in the fire as possible.

    That threat is real, indeed.

But just maybe both of his gigs (Speed TV and official F1 post race interviewer) get filled in time so that when he wants to come back he looks worse than Jay Leno.

At least it looked like more of a workplace with actual workplaces and not staged. The impression I still get though is that it is by and large a group of F1 rookies. I didn't sense a lot of seasoned F1 old hands around.

The best probability of success will probably lay in getting something basic and conservative out at the start of the season and the chief aerodynamicist will use scaling and reverse engineer portions of other designs. I really don't see the infrastructure to take unconventional risks. I would look for a very conservative design with plenty of fudge factor to made immediate adjustments after the start of the season. I still think they will be at a distinct disadvantage with their inability to throw large amounts of staff and money at BOTH windtunnel and CFD, but economically they may have no other option at this point in time.

I felt that all of the individuals interviewed gave the impression of being thrown in at the deep end, but I believe F1 veterans are waiting to see how it plays out before boarding the ship... They have a steep hill to climb and not much time to do it. Why oh why is this happening so late in the day? The team's progress should be much further down the line, but it may not have been possible with the resources available.

Having said that, and with the appearance that staff have that "moved in" look, it finally has the appearance of some potential. We shall see.

Personally I would like to be proven wrong about all this. I have indeed been cynical and will be happy to eat crow, but in my defense, they really haven't shown much of a hand up until now, have they?

As I noted before I could not find substantiaton for Sunday's story about missing races and he now says :

Meanwhile there have been rumours, which started in Italy at the weekend, that USF1 had requested a derogation to start the season at the Spanish Grand Prix on May 9. But I checked with the FIA and with the team and this is absolutely untrue. USF1 have rooms booked for Bahrain.

I was astounded that the one guy (some designer named Bennett) DIDN"T even stand up to greet Varsha - that's crude, rude and unacceptable in the professional business world. The aero guy used to be with Michael Waltrip Racing - so that may give an insight as to what the car will ultimately look like. Agree on the video quality Brian. It's amazing that on another MAJOR wide spectrum forum in their F1 section, there are 226 posts about this topic with some very interesting view points that make fchat look tame.

I must agree with Frank's comment a few post previous: "I think deep down the thing that really hurts is that with the name of the team being US F1, one cannot help but associate this trainwreck with the US. Us Americans by association are being made to look idiotic! I personally hate having a laughingstock team with my country's name on it!!!

I'll never forget a great conversation I had with Louise Goodman at the 100 Years of Grand Prix Racing dinner at Autosport International a few years ago - she was shocked that someone from the US was there (us being fans) and that I was quite knowledgeable about Formula 1 - goes to show you the perception for the people in the US. I for one don't want to be sterotyped as being idiotic by the dumb/stupid comments made by wannabees.

I am from Latin America, if you refer a place as "America" it is the continent.
Most people refer to americans as "Americanos" because saying "Estadounidenses" is too long, or they might just go for "gringo".

But if you refer to America as a place, for example "Vengo de America" it does not means from the US to most people.

Here is an example of the feeling: http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=6236937125&ref=search&sid=659995449.2377139397..1

But on facebook search just right "America es Continente" and you will see how many people think the same.

Sorry for the off-topic but America is a continent, and it is not referred to the US in other countries in America. "Americano" on the other hand is used but it is specified in the context.
    ----

On Topic: I am torn with USF1, I don't know if they are actually trying to do something just to fail due to lack of a proper management. Or it is just a fraud and it was meant to fail from the beginning. The video looks dull and I agree the "designer" looks like he just woke up.
