So this is a "regular" F40 built to look like a LM with a GTE wing?

It does LOOK a lot better now. I might be concerned about the frame integrity after that fire, though...

Just goes to show... it really will buff right out...

They did a really nice job on this car, albeit, I'd call it a replica and never even mention an actual "F40 chassis..."

I ran with this car at John and Franco's event in NO and it was very fast. The Police shut the Interstate and we touched 200 mph. (I was in my Lola which has a VMAX of about 205) The car ran well and was very well built. It used a lot of LM parts that he bought from Benie C and WWOC. It is what it is but for 200K is a lot of car. If I was looking for a track toy I'd consider it.

That is unfair, the car is what it is ... a continuation of the same chassis massively rebuilt after a fire. It's still the same car and thus a genuine F40.

There are a heck of a lot less genuine cars around ...

If you want to call this car a replica, then next time you change a part of your car what does your car become? Unless this F40 used a 100% remade chassis then it was restored IMO.

I don't believe it is. This is 86878, I think Linders car was 84xxx. I could be wrong though.

Thanks :). I know that, I just didn't want to mention the full serial number. Every time that car comes up, a fight seems to break out.

Those are indeed UK registered BMWs in the background.
As per Sheehan, this car was crashed on Mullholland Drive on 4 August, 2001.
Early in 2002 he sold it to Arizona.

    And now in the UK??

FYI the MOT that is referred to when they say the car has been 'inspected and certified' is only a basic check all cars over 3 years old in the UK have to pass annually. It includes

    What the MOT test includes
The MOT looks at some important items on your car to see that they meet key legal requirements at the time of test.
    The body and vehicle structure

Is free from excessive corrosion or damage in specific areas and there are no sharp edges likely to cause injury.

    The fuel System

Has no leaks and the fuel cap fastens and seals securely. The fuel cap will need to be opened so be sure the key is available.

    The exhaust emissions

The vehicle meets the requirements for exhaust emissions, dependant on the age and fuel type of the vehicle.

    The exhaust system

Is secure, complete, without serious leaks and silences effectively.

    The seat belts

All belts installed are checked for type, condition, operation and security. All compulsory seat belts must be in place.

    The seats

The front seats are secure. Front and rear backseats can be secured in the upright position.

    Components to be inspected
    The doors

Latch securely in closed position. Front doors should open from inside and outside the vehicle. Rear doors may need to be opened to gain access to testable items.

    The mirrors

The minimum numbers are on the vehicle, their condition and security.

    Load security

Boot or tailgate can be secured in the closed position.

    The brakes

Their condition, operation and performance (efficiency test). Note the removal of the road wheels is not part of the test.

    The tyres and wheels

Their condition, security, size, type and tread depth. Spare tyres are not inspected.

    The registration plates

Their condition, security, characters correctly formed and spaced.
    The lights

Their condition, operation and security. Headlamps for aim.

    The bonnet

Securely latches in the closed position.

    The wipers and washers

Operate to give the driver a clear view ahead.

    The windscreen

Its condition and the driver’s view of the road.

    The horn

Operates correctly and is of a suitable type.

    The steering and suspension

Are of a satisfactory condition and operation.

    The vehicle identification number (VIN)

Is on vehicles first used on or after 1 August 1980. Not more than one different VIN is displayed except on multistage build vehicles

    This is the car

    http://ferraris-online.com/pages/carintro.php?reqcardir=FE-F40-86878

Car is quite strange to judge as it was rebuilt to a track spec but not really race spec. It's not original ferrari parts for the body as far as I know. I tried to buy the car 2 years ago but the owner wanted to finish it. Think they would have been better to return the car to road spec.

So I believe that the car is real, but is the auction? Not trying to sound like a jerk, but I would expect a slightly more professional ad and a spell check for a car like this.. Also the location says Italy, but the phone number is from Florida.. The seller has basically no history on eBay.. He also says the car has only dyno time, does dyno time include closed interstate blasting..? Just seems fishy...

Not trying to doubt the car at all, I'm totally for bringing cars back to life and this one looks like a job well done!

This is not Linders car. I know the car personally.

The car was originally here in Florida and is owned by a good friend of mine. The car was sent over to Italy and England to be rebuilt to LM/GTE specs at the owners wish. The car was destined to come back to Florida but the owner has a new project that has captured his interest.

If someone is interested I can put you directly in touch with the owner.

    Best,

    John T

So the car has an actual F40 chassis and VIN? What about the engine and body panels? If so I think you are foolish to call this a "replica", it may have some odd and ends for parts but if there is a Ferrari VIN, and a real chassis how can you say it's a fake?

If anyone's considering buying the car, before you bid, call Detective Jeff Kornegay of the Phoenix Police Department's Drug Enforcement Bureau, 602.426.0976.
