A big thanks to all who gave advice since last summer culminating in 2 spirited hours of driving last sunday in my espada . I would not own this car let alone restore it without the internet. Thank you again and have a safe and happy Holiday Gary 8394
Gary, It looks like if the weather holds, I should be able to get my Espada out on Monday. (Just thought I would rub it in a little) Happy holidays! Gus (Espada 8616)
Hi Guys! Lamborghini Market Conditions Just a quick comment. Look at the Lamborghini cars compared to the Ferrari cars. The 350, 400, Islero, Espada, and Jarama sell for fractions of the money that the Ferrari cars bring. Are the Ferraris that much better? Most reviews show the Lamborghinis more advanced. They are not more expensive to work on. I have spent most of my life owning, and working on collector cars as a hobby. I am very proud to have rescued many very important cars from turning into parts. With the current market attitude I really believe that we all will look back and be very sad to see that many of these wonderful works of art are gone. This can be changed immediately. Sometimes respect can be demanded. If all vintage Lamborghini owners said Hell No to current market attitudes, then if these cars really are important, the market will generate the respect, that these wonderful cars deserve. It will also ensure the survival of many vintage Lamborghinis. Just a thought. I hope all of you have a safe and Very Merry Christmas. **I also posted this comment on the Islero site. been coldish for Scotland. Minus 11c (12f) and been trying to get time to get the old cars out for an engine warm through. Far too much salt on our roads for a drive about Here is a pic of the smokers!
All, these Espadas in the snow and no one has chains on them? ;>) I'll bet Gary is still scouring the internet for his factory issued Campagnolo chains but will have them before the snow melts ... Engine looks fantastic Gary. I figure the smile on your face is good for about a month. Once you can "really" drive it next spring you'll probably forget about all about women for several months and actually save some money too! Save it for the tickets. Bob S.
Didnt really know where to post this and i dont think it deserved a new thread so i guess here will do, great spot (not by me) http://img96.imageshack.us/img96/2743/dsc02268j.jpg
Wow! The flying star II in Paris! I can remember seeing it when I was a kid in the 80s. It seems now to have a different shade of grey and chromed spinners. PS: you can post it on the 350/400 GT thread.
Gents ; Any tips on how to do this without breaking it and then putting it back in safely? The painter is worried Gary 8394
Can't help you on the windshield Gary but there is a guy who's on VLG who just finisdhed painting his Espada. I'd suggest him. Give me another call because I do have a couple of other things I can point out before you paint. Bob S.
Gary, It looks pretty straight forward to me (just like the Corvair windshield I replaced). I believe you remove the outer insert first to loosen the seal, then apply gental pressure from the inside while you work the seal from the inside around the frame. I believe that Jacque has a good windshield in case you break it. Gus (Espada 8616)
I remember seeing an Espada for sale in the magazines in the UK a few years ago and it had really amazing wheels on it - the advert said they were a rare factory option. They almost looked like life-size Hot Wheels alloys or something. I've had a look through this thread (nice work by the way!) and I don't think I can see any Espadas with these wheels - unless I missed the photo so I'm guessing the advert was being a little economical with the truth?
Well I don't know if there is a picture of the car on this thread but I've seen it once at a show last year and yes it did have a set of special wheels. What the owner said was that they made a few sets of these and they were done to allow for mounting of the spinner ears on late 5 bolts series III wheels. They have a big dish shaped insert that lays across the center of the wheel and the spinner spins on to that for purely decorative purposes. The dish shaped piece is almost 1/2" thick and quite heavy. I think there's a picture of it in the NYC area section from maybe 2-3 years ago. Oh, just found it here: http://www.conceptcarz.com/view/photo/402527,15746/photo.aspx There are a bunch of Espada pictures from this event. Here's my car: http://www.conceptcarz.com/view/photo/402549,17024/1971-Lamborghini-Espada_Photo.aspx Bob S.
They look great but they're not the ones I was thinking of, I'll try and find the advert and scan it.
