Over at the 365GTC4.com website there is a thread on manufacturing new C/4 center console switch plates, http://www.365gtc4.com/Forum/Default.aspx?g=posts&t=736. If this link doesn't work, the thread is in the 'Parts' section of the 'Forum'.

I'm told that the 365 GT4 2+2 and maybe the first 400s have the same plate. If this is so, and you are interested in buying a new one for $550.00 + shipping, please reply to this thread, or if you are a member of the 365GTC4.com website reply to that thread. The quality of the plate is good, built by a reputable vintage Ferrari parts manufacturer, there are six confirmed orders so far. The more being bought brings the per unit price down.

They are pretty close in general configuration but I think that there might need to be too many modifications to the switch cutouts to accomodate the different number and sizes in the 400 series. Will the holes be punched already or will the buyer be able to make their own holes? Also, the area below the ashtray cutout is totally different so this may not work at all.

Here's what was said to be the prototype of the C/4 console plate and a picture of my series 2 400i 5 speed console.

And let's not forget that the plate/switches on an automatic car is reversed from a 5-speed car.

John, what is that red button below your vent levers? I don't have it. Was it done by the company who federalized your car?

<edit> And I just noticed you have the same problem with the leather around the key switch that I do.

    Ashman,
    your center console is 412 i; 365 gt4 2 + 2 are similar to c/4, but it will not work for 412.

No that's not correct. A 412 center console is quite different. No vent levers, etc. Here is a picture:

From what I have seen, the 365 gt/4 2+2 consoles are teak, the configuration of which seems to mirror that of metal gtc console. See attached pic. These may or may not be interchangeable. If they are, then I guess it may not be prudent to assume that all gt/4 2+2s came with the teak console--although it appears that a majority did.

Hi Greg, wood was indeed used in 356 GT4 2+2 and also used in the series 1 400's and 400i's although I'm not so sure about it being teak.

Here is a picture of a series 1 400i auto:

Hi Dave, fair point. I guess various different veneers is a definite possibility. While not absolutely certain, I believe mine to be teak.

Yes yours is pretty nice looking. To be honest it is the first one I've seen with straight grain instead of burl. What would be interesting to know is if you could order a different wood from the factory at the time of build or if your has been re-done.
These are facinating cars aren't they?

    Ashman,

To be a bit more clear, that plate is not the prototype of the new production run. It is the well-worn, dirty template that will be used to make the new ones. The new ones will not have any radio cut-out, so that a new custom radio cut-out can be made by the buyer after receiving the plate for whatever radio he/she chooses. If one wanted the USA version, the cut-out for the "Fasten Seat Belt" sign can also be made by the buyer after receiving the plate.

Dave, alas, that is not actually my car. The photo of the console, however, looks exactly like mine though--and I happen to have two. A prior owner--shame on you, if you are reading--actually cut the wood to accomodate for an aftermarket POS radio. Luckily, a replacement unit happened to come my way--both are straight-grained (teak). It would be interesting indeed if there were different wood veneer options available from the factory.

2 of them both straight grained, VERY interesting and pretty cool.
Take a look at all these and you'll see why I think that is unusual:

Dave, I see what you mean. You have the upper hand with the burl units. Frankly, until this thread, I was not focused on the fact that there existed different veneers. While it is possible that some units have been refinished, it also plauible that different veneers were applied by (or on behalf of) the factory. Are your pics of 400s and 400is?

Oh I think you're probably right. To me it looks like there was the availibility of different veneers most likely installed at the factory.

    I just grabbed a few I had at random. I think there is a 365, a 400, and a 400i there.

    Very interesting thread. :)

While we're on the topic of consoles, is anyone aware of a source for the cable levers as shown in the second photo. Mine have broken at the pivot point.

I am interested in a plate if they are quality. My 365 GT4/2+2 is the same aluminum unit. PM me as I do not have the ability to chime in on the GTC4 website.

Try unobtainum .com..This chap in Mass. makes the levers and the labels brand new..The mechanisms are unbreakable .. He is also the guru for repairing the multi-funtion stalk switches and his prices are very reasonable..he makes a variety of things compatible with old F-cars accross the board..Check him out he's all over the 308 forums..Verrell is his name..you will love the guy. I hope that this is of some help..Jacques.
