    Joe or anyone else,
In my very early 78, what radio would or should have come in it?

Peter: I want to say early Alpine, such as both my 1979 cars had, and given that we know that one of the last LP400 (1120300) had moved on to an Alpine.

I wouldn't be surprised if there were alternate models.

I guess I should get my mind out of the gutter, but it sure looks like Malcom is "zipping up" after peeing outside his car. ;-)

Also my 78' Shilouette that was built in late 77' has the exact same Alpine unit as 1121020 & 1121036.

Actually, Alpine says: "1977 - The CM630 cassette radio was adopted as an OEM component for Lamborghini automobiles" so I was correct, from late LP400 onwards.

As long as we are on an OEM radio scavenger hunt, what was the original radio specification for a USA F.I. 87 Countach? Thanks in advance.

My 1986 has an Alpine 7273. Later in the year, Alpine built a 7273R. Might be the same as a 1987.. but it could have an Alpine 7274 in 1987.

Yes and although it looks minty, he has driven consistently over the last 24 years. All original, and as you know there's nothing like an original car.

Well you could always go for 1121030 which is a Series 1 with the Periscopa roof and have the best of both worlds.

Here is another S1 rarity - my former 1121034, the only one with the roof vents, a minor detail, but quite cool.

Now that would be something. Any chance that gem is for sale anywhere near 'my' price range?

    Rob:

The last S1 sale I was involved with was a matter of weeks ago and the car brought $250k even. Just a nice car, not a Holy Grail of originality like 1121036. Prior to that I sold 1121036 for $300k, and the owner of 1121030 with the Periscopa roof had been toying with accepting $275k but changed his mind citing insufficient sale price. I also sold 1121034 for some $265k in the past. So if you ask me genuine S1 cars bring $200k to $300k.

That range probably doesn't sound too reasonable to you based on our past discussions, but its a lot better than $300k to $500k for an LP400. Having said all that, I don't think you should ever give up your dreams of an LP400. You never know, something can happen to you in business to put you in a position make those numbers seem downright reasonable. Anything is possible.

Basically the comparison is these two cars below. With the S1 you get that 'on rails' handling and fiercely aggressive stance, whereas with the LP400 you get stunningly pure lines that make even the most seasoned car enthusiasts gasp.

Another factor with keeping prices in a sensible range is to consider cars without unusual liveries, application, or provenance.

With classic Lamborghinis the number goes up with a car with something special within the parameters as described above.

For example if you sought to purchase the ex-New York Auto Show LP400 (below) expect to pay more...

Very nice side by side comparison. Can you post high res to your web site, side by side? It would be interesting to be able to zoom in.
