Kiffin hasn't proved anything to me. He is the only guy I have ever seen that keeps getting better jobs with NO sucess. How was that dance on Rocky Top Lame? With out his father and other followers he would be less than nothing.

I know the SEC has had the top team in the country for the past few years. But the conference is not all that its fans claim it to be. You will often see claims that the worst SEC team would be #2 or 3 in one of the other big 6 conferences, or that the top team in one of the other big 6 conferences would only rate #6 in the SEC. That is just not true, but it is a fun claim to make! The SEC conference barely broke .500 in bowl games (and lost to both ACC teams that they were matched against). Miami will only sell lots of tickets to a Hurricanes game when they are ranked in the top 5. The highest rated college football games on ESPN (by how many people watched) are not SEC games. For some real data on the conferences check here:
    http://www.behindthesteelcurtain.com/2008/8/26/597909/what-s-the-best-college-fo
Where it shows the SEC to have generally the best stats, etc..., but not always, and not nearly as dominant as its fans wuold have you believe.

As far as fans, the SEC has the most loyal and enthusiastic fans by a huge margin, followed by the Big Ten. ACC football has never been a hot ticket. WAC / MWC football is a flash in the pan historically speaking. SEC teams are followed rabidly by a regional crowd. There is no national love for any of the SEC teams.

I believe DrTC was being facetious. It's been sarcasticly noted in the ongoing college football thread's on F-chat for the past few years, that USC is the all-deserving & do-no-wrong prodigal program in the eyes the media/press/voters (what Notre Dame used to be), meaning they're pre-season #1's, top-5 rankings, and this/that just because- well, because they are USC.

Meaning, it's all in humor on here towards USC. Being a keen follower of the program, I laugh it up, just like when the SEC is hyperbolically praised, or other non-BCS conference gate-crashers are cut-down w/o mercy. It's all friendly banter. . .

    BT,

it's always good to post 2+ year old data..... From August 2008 come on brother.
That's 2 seasons ago. Don't live in the past. Before I know it some Notre Dame homer is going to pipe up and claim the Irish as the strongest conference. Can 1 team be a conference? Only if it's Notre Dame. (get a life ND and come in to the future.)

The Vols' seemed to have gotten a solid head-coach in Derek Dooley (Saban pedigree at LSU/Fish). I have no idea about his offensive/defensive philosophy, but he's quite the recruiter as well as being educated & from a solid college football background (grew up w/ the GA Bulldogs in their hey-day as his ol' man was head-coach). . .

derek called one of the funniest plays i've ever seen, and it was flawlessly executed.

    i'll set the stage.

la tech vs the corndogs in baton rouge 2009. la tech had the ball on the corndogs 2 yard line, 2 seconds before halftime. its 4th and goal and the clock has been stopped for a timeout.

la tech's offense is set, when thier quaterback starts walking to his left down the offensive line yelling and pointing. boom, the ball is snapped while the corndogs are picking thier noses watching the quaterback put on this dog and pony show.

the running back takes the snap in the shotgun position, takes 2 steps forward and does a great tim tebow impression (which by the way fools the corndogs everytime) and gives a jump pass to his reciever standing alone in the end zone for the GO AHEAD SCORE as time expires in the half!!!!

ol' les and company are left with nothing but embarrassement, and as i'm sure to the corndogs faithful way of dealing with these things, blame on the refs.

truly brilliant play, he'll do well in tennessee. better than punk ass lane would've done. now they just need to schedule a home and home with ut and usc series.

    here's the play: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JsOwYHIolHg

    bwahahahaha!!!!!!!

Okay, so most currently the SEC went 6-4 in bowl games, certainly not dominant! Like I said, currently the SEC has the top TEAM, but the conference is not all that its fans claim it to be. SEC went 0-2 vs. the ACC in bowl games, so the ACC must be the best right?
    SEC sucks!

Not that I'm a Longhorn sympathizer or diehard supporter (I just happened to move here years ago, but my FBS allegiances lie elsewhere), but what the heck are you talking about? :D

'Bama was p!ssing & sh!tting on themselves in that 1st quarter (all self-inflicted, nothing to do w/ Texas at all). As Saban said, 0-6 vs. 0-14 made all the difference in the game, even w/ or w/ McCoy getting knocked-out; then the gift-wrapped shovel-pass ala'mode to uber'man-child #56 of the Tide right at the onset of halftime changed the game likely for good; again Saban's words. 'Bama kinda sorta fell asleep for the 3rd quarter & nearly two-thirds of the 4th quarter (namely got schooled in the air on defense, couldn't pass-block, couldn't pass-rush, and got generally lackadaisical on offense). But, they made the plays when it mattered, that's all there is to it. . .

    Obviously you have been drinking!

Texas looked like they were crushing Alabama prior to that play, but maybe I am not seeing it properly. Alabama gets a 3 and fake punt gets intercepted. Texas goes for a first down, and is in the red zone, heading for a TD when McCoy gets hurt. If things had kept going that way I don't see Alabama winning.

No just sleep deprived. :) That game was never in doubt, hell Alabama didn't even need a passing game to win by double digits

I agree. Up to the point when Colt McCoy got hurt I had no doubt Texas was going to win. The next play I was sure Alabama was going to win. To be fair, we will never know how the game would have turned out if McCoy had not been injured. Injuries are part of the game, so that's the way the cookie crumbles, so to speak. Alabama is the champion, all else is just noise!

With a great coaching staff, and an obviously talented team any Alabama / SEC fan would have to believe that they would have snapped out of it and won the game regardless of the injury. Others may wonder, but that is kind of pointless.

This really should be in the 2009 thread though. 2010 is the year of the Hurricanes (or maybe someone from the Big Ten)!!!

Concur, at least Texas was outplaying Bama while McCoy was in there. When he went out it was all over but the crying, and Texas STILL mounted a comeback with a QB who was getting stinky finger with some high school girl in the backseat of his 1984 Pontiac Bonneville about 7 months before he was thrown onto the biggest stage in NCAA football.

The SEC is still the best conference overall, but not nearly what they were a few years ago top to bottom, and hey, if you go 0-2 against the ACC and lose to Penn State and almost lose to Northwestern (if a dude can kick a chipshot) you aren't all THAT good.

    Go Buckeyes.

snippet: "...Kent Austin, the Rebels’ offensive coordinator for the last two seasons, is the latest to leave. He will reportedly be named the head coach at Cornell on Wednesday...Quarterback Jevan Snead gave up his senior season to enter the NFL draft, and both of the Rebels’ top offensive playmakers – Dexter McCluster and Shay Hodge – were seniors..."

My '10 West Champs prediction ain't looking so good.

    Regardless...Hotty Toddy!
