With thanks to PAP348, and clawing my way through the user's manual, I offer the following to those that may need to change their battery. Ya gotta jack the car up on the driver's side. Note that there's a place to put the scissor jack, see photos. Remove the left front wheel. Note the panel on the forward side of the wheel well. Remove cover. Turn knob to OFF for electrical to system. See photo below. Remove existing battery.

Replace with an incredibly great, new battery. I went with a Sears at about $350 (yes, I know.). Reverse the steps. Turn system electrical back on, at black knob under bonnet.

Go buy a trickle charger. After some research, I went with the Battery Tender Plus. About $75USD. This was maybe 6 mos. ago. It's worked well on the Garage Queen. See photos for connect points in the engine compartment, and for the dial to disable all electrical under the bonnet.

In the engine compartment, the red and black clips are from the trickle charger, the box to the left of center is the unit. Under the bonnet, the black dial is the on/off for the electrical to the entire system. Nifty disabling device. Who knew?

If there's difficulty w/ the attached photos, try here: http://picasaweb.google.com/HadleyJr/348Battery?feat=directlink.

Last photo; gotta share a shot of that beaut from Marinello.

    Happy 2010, y'all!

great pics. My '90 has the battery in the back. Is it the same process? My battery is 3 years old, I think I'm due for a new one.

    Sorta. :D:D

I lift it out from the top, but you can jack it up, remove the LH rear wheel and the wheel arch and remove the battery from underneath. :D:D

If you're feeling strong, you can lift out from the top. :D:D

Anyone want to chime in for a replacement battery for a 1995 348. Hadley went with a pricey Interstate in this post ($350) but do others have suggestions? Also, what information do I need to have in case the salesperson can't cross reference the correct one. Amps, ratings, etc... I will try a charger first so see if the current dead but not perhaps gone battery will ressurect. It's been a cold couple of weeks here and it's taken it's toll. Good news is it makes a perfect time to replace the fuel pressure regualtors now too

No, no, no. Regrets for the confusion. That Interstate is what came out. A pretty pricey Sears battery is what went it.

I ended up going with a NAPA brand that had the same cranking amps as the one that came out of it. Right about $200, IIRC. Only problem is that if she sits for more than 3 weeks, nogo. Battery Tender for the win.

How many CCA is that battery Tom? :):)

Are batteries expensive over in the USA?? :):)

    I can get a big 550CCA Century battery for AU $169 (US $155). :):)

    Can get a 1000CCA Odyssey battery for AU $300 (US $275). :):)

My 348 needs a new battery now and was thinking of getting the 1000CCA battery. Currently have a 550CCA in there, but I left the car sit for too long and I think it has dropped a cell.:rolleyes:

The SOB sat for 5 months!:eek:

I charged the battery for 2 days the other day and she JUST fired up. I had to empty the lawn mower fuel into her because she had no fuel left in her. :D:D

Here is a pic from the other day. Never been that dusty before. ;);)

I took Nicole's cousins and Uncle's for drives the other day. They were visiting. Drove it 2 days in a row. Going to take her for another drive again later today. :D:D

I washed her before I took them all for a drive. :D:D

Battery seems ok, but will order a new one as soon as possible. :):)

LOL! She looks like a BARN FIND!!! :D:D
Did you leave her outdoors for 5 months? I hope not...
You really should think about running 93+ in the lawn mower from now on, so you don't have to think twice about sharing fuel. Just don't get it mixed up with the string trimmer fuel... :)

Nah man, she was locked away in my dirt floored garage for that 5 months. :D:D

I actually put Shell V-power in my lawn mower, so it was the perfect mix for Betsy.:eek:

    Hehe! :eek::eek:

$350  I can buy four Interstates for that money.

Even at Super Duper Retail you paid at least twice what it should have cost ESPECIALLY from Sears.
