It appears that the main thing 456/550/575 owners talk about the most is the sound of their exhaust (myself included), so check this out:

I would love to get my 456 sounding similar to this....

Can anybody explain why this car sounds like a F1 car? I believe the rpms are in the 8000-range. Not too much over my 456' 7300. The pitch (frequency) could be nuch higher on Ferrari V12 cars i my opinion. How can we make that happen? Smaller diametre exhaust pipes?

The LP is an amazing car, but no way the 456 would sound like it. Many variables in the engine give the different sound. The closest you could get is with a Kreissieg exhaust, for around $5400.

OK, I have always wondered WHY Kreissieg has so high frequenzy in the sound...? Any have answer to that? 5400 for a exhaust is sure much, but it ias also expencive to try all kinds of different systems too. Where can these Kreissieg systems be bought? Are they made in Japan?

I checked all the videos that Kreissieg has on their site. To me, it seems like they hav mostly very free flowing mufflers and that that is the reason why the sound is so sharp. Most of the systems they build makes much nois and afterburning "bangs" when off the throttle. This leads me to wonder if they are really "fine tuned" or not. I would like to try a Stebro system over the Kriessieg in fact. It is about what kind of sound match the car. There was for instance a BMW Alpina B7 (brand new V8 BMW) that had the worst sound I have ever heared for a BMW. That does not make sense.

So the final question is...: Which system match the 456 the most? It should not have a deep bark at 7000 rpm, but have a fine "tone" AND have the right "attitude" when driving in slow traffic at low rpms. I guess that it is not easy to get the best from both worlds.

    Any suggestions?

Kreissieg are tuned to be high pitched(generally). Even other similar looking (and free flowing) exhausts cant match their sound. I agree they dont always have the best sound for each car, but overall they are very good. The Quicksilver 456 sounds good, though not as loud as Kreissieg. That can be fixed by removing the center muffler or the cats.

    456M, you have a PM.

full individual throttle body setup + custom inconel exhaust (full, including exhaust manifolds) will get you VERY close to that sound.

For me personally, this is the best sound for a 456/550/575:

I'd like a 550 to sound like a race car if it was a 'stradale' version. Lighter, slightly more aggressive aero, better chassis (I.E. more track focused). But for a road car...the one above is my favourite.

That is the sound I have been looking for since I heard my first f1 car. Those rpm's sound incredibly high from the video. I think that is part of the reason for that sound. I know this sounds crazy but when I get back into the F game I will make sure that the sound will be a priority of what every model I will finally choose.

Bas Jaski: I am very a like your thoughts. The most extreme systems dont offer a clean sound. The one in your movie sounded good. Do you know what kind of exhaust that was? Sad the video didn't show it while reving and driving.....

How do you keep from hearing all twelve cylinders, stick potatoes in one set of tailpipes?

What I mean is that the sound lets you hear all twelve, but on most systems and the stok, it is more of a monotone tone.

What do you hear behind your car?

F456M- The head design on the 550/575M and the intake systems are completely different from a 456/M, one reason why the bronze valve guides in the 550 have given few problems compared to the 456/M. Maybe 456s sound different for that reason, but I doubt it.

My car has factory straight center pipes and a factory HGTC exhaust and makes a nice 12 cylinder burble at idle, a beautiful 12 cylinder purr during cruise and screams 12 cylinder music under throttle with the valves open. It did the same thing with stock late 575M model mufflers before I changed exhausts.

I am afraid I just do not understand, nor believe, your comments on exhaust systems. If anyone else does, please chime in. I have heard beautiful 12 cylinder sounds from cars with center mufflers and aftermarket exhausts, straight center pipes and OEM and aftermarket exhausts, X-pipes and OEM and aftermarket mufflers, and straight pipes with no mufflers. It is really hard to get a bad sound out of these 12 cylinders, except the OEM center muffler/resonators and OEM muflers tend to be a little too quiet. Some people grump about resonance on early Tubis, but others love it. It is difficult to foul up a 12 cylinder exhaust unless you make it too loud. But, we have owners who love it loud, like the one who bought my Novitec Supersport mufflers, which were very loud with my straight pipes. With a great FXX sound, I might add, that definitely let the neighbors know you were coming.

So, I am at a loss to understand your comments on six cylinder Mercedes engines and the like.

My Ferrari Daytona had no crossovers for the two sides of the exhaust and I have heard nobody grumble about the exhaust note from a Daytona or one sounding like two six cylinder engines.

No clue what you are talking about.

According to the uploader it has the following system: quicksilver mufflers, hyperflow cats, x-pipe.

IIRC the owner is an occosional poster on here.

When I get my 550 I want the same exhaust system...
