Engine bay F40

I came up with a lot of differences within the F40 engine bays. I took some pictures from the www to show the differences. Differences includes the exhaust, heat shields, airboxes ( black?) and the black horizontal bar between the suspensions .

How can I see the differences between a cat and non cat version?

Is it possible to see the difference between an adjustable and non-adjustable suspension?

Can somebody explain what the complete original engine bay is?

Or are there more then one type of engine bays.

For the most part the black airboxes with less heat shields are earlier non cat cars and the silver ones with more heat shields are later cat cars. Some F40s had the bare carbon kevlar composite showing, others had it painted black as well.

 

Ya know I never realized the difference between the two concerning the WG dump pipe, very cool.

 

Is there sealed ducting directing air to the bottom of the intercoolers?

 

Not sure, I don't think so.

 

Is the reason for the different exhaust in pic#2 that it has a Tubi aftermarket system?

 

Here's mine, which is a late 92, adjustable suspension car. As you can see my rear valance is not bare kevlar but painted black. Also the steel supports to the rear valance are also powder coated black as opposed to silver.

No I was talking about the rear valance supports. These are powder coated black and not silver. Car is original

Seems to me like it would have to in order for the intercoolers to not function the reverse of intended. I think I can see a heat reflective ducting material in one of the pics but not sure.

 

You may be correct, I am not 100% sure.

I'm not sure how well the intercoolers work. Most of the air seems to flow around them rather than through them. The intercooler mounting and sealing on the Porsche cars help force the air through them.

Does anyone notice a loss of power when tracking for extended periods on a hot day?

 

They must work pretty good since alot of race F40's still have the standard size intercoolers, even a few LM's. Some do have larger ones though....
