You gonna tell us what he did?

I can't vouch for his genius as I don't have an F40 for him to work on, but he's always been a really nice guy.

C'mon, this thread is worthless without pictures and details. :)

He resolved my boost issue quickly and happily over the phone. It had me quite concerned.

    Prince of a guy.

Just curious, was it a diaphragm issue?

    Nope.

I didn't realize these things need to be blazing hot to avoid boost cutout. The high tech solution to my boost issue was to cable tie some cardboard pieces to the grill in front of the rad. Seems the F40 has anover-achieving cooling system and the boost cuts out if the car isn't close to the middle of oil temp gauge (210 degrees on mine).

Even with all that cardboard, It's hard to move the temp gauge, so he suspects my thermostat may be stuck open.

    Great guy.

Here are two good threads on similar problems that Dave has helped fix:

    And this one:

Post #18 by Dave: “Start by replacing the slow down ecu's. I have seen them cut out a bank with no slow down light showing. Make sure there is enough engine temp. If too cold it will shut down boost”

    I love these beasts! :)

    Jamie.

I think those heat-dissipating straight pipes are the original source of your problem. In my experience.

To underscore the above, we recently rectified this same situation with an F40 - went back to stock exhaust and we got full boost all the time at any temp. The system is set up for the factory exhaust with cats in place and that's the setup where you get optimum performance.

I also had the cut out with test pipes and Tubi. After I put on cats, keeping the Tubi, boost now seems to work at any temp as well. Mine tends to run "cool" also. - Tim

A reflash of the ecu should take care of the boost issue.

Was thinking the same, if you change the exhaust a reflash or wastegate fix is usually the cure.

Dave can help you in a lot of ways with the F40. Fortunately, he's only an hour away for me. He has a great menu of items he can help you with - permanent fuse box fix, ECUs, fire suppression system, dual master cylinder, turbo choices, fuel tank function, exhaust systems, brake\wheel set-up options, street or track set-up...... the list goes on and on.

It's nice to have him as a resource. Don't hesitate to call him. He can make the F40 wish list happen.
