He did the only possible thing, evacuate the building and close down.

No need for a "worship service". ;)

    I wondered this too...

Does collectors insurance cover this??? Seems to me most have clauses about being covered only in a locked and secured garage...

Reminds me of a friend. Had a mattress store. Was getting his place repainted, so he moved all of his stock into the adjacent store in the strip mall. The store burned down... His insurance would not provide any benefits to damaged stock held "off site," even though he had only moved it 15 feet into a space next to his store...he went bankrupt...

    Tecnicalities...technicalities...

Now is not the time to be the owner of a tent rental and install business....

Or what happens if you bought a car earlier in the day? Reminds me of the old phrase 'you can't get insurance when you need it'.....
Hopefully Russo had a mega policy....

I was wondering if there was a chance that if a car was just purchased that day that one might not have insurance at all...? Awful situation... I hope it gets sorted out in the best way possible.

We shall see now how much of a "stand-up guy" Drew is.

Liability and insurance? Nothing cut and dried here.

Russo probably has a liability policy to protect themselves but I doubt any actual coverage on consigned vehicles.

I'll bet there's a big "hold harmless" clause in the consignment agreement.

I recommend that nobody hold their breath.

When does one technically "own" a car bought at auction?

    When the gavel goes down?
    When payment occurs?
    When the check clears?

Most "regular" insurance carriers give you insurance on a new car purchase for 10 days, even if you don't call them. For example, if you buy a car on a friday night, good luck reaching your carrier before monday. StateFarm/AmFam etc have told me I am immediatley covered, if I buy a car "similar" to previous cars...

I can't image that the same occurs with Haggerty, etal. Or, does it? Pretty unlikely any new buyer had his car insured if they bought it that night...

I see a lot of busy lawyers in the near future...

R&S had 600 cars there. Were they all damaged? Probably not. I would suspect the damage was to 100 cars or less. Totaled? Probably not. Paint, trim, glass....this is not going to cost Grundy or Hagerty a huge some of money.

By the way the new Hagerty commercials are uh...this will be a good test since they are making a big deal about how good they are at finding correct parts....

I miss the old Hagerty commercials...at least the guy in the band had the hot car and girl!

I think this would make for a great Hagarty comercial ;)

Hopefully your right about the ratio of damaged v. undamaged cars.

The R&S media release said there was one minor injury. They were treated by Scottsdale Police. The website says the auction might continue later this weekend. We all know cars can be replaced and people can't. This could have be alot worse.

What are your options as of now, will it be fixed by them or will you be paying/insurance? I saw a video of Hagerty on site.

    Hope everything gets better.

my guess is that my car is a total loss. Every panel is damaged. 75% of my glass is damages beyond belief. It will be going to the body shop on monday for assessment. Its amazing how bad the car is.Its really sad.

To be clear, it was a Lamborghini Diablo previously owned by M. Forbes, correct?

Whatever it was, I'm sorry this had to happen.

TC, I can tell by things you've said here and elsewhere that you are that special breed of enthusiast that views ownership of these special cars from the POV that you are a caretaker of history, and because of that this event has cut you deeply. I hope for you and the car the happiest ending possible.
