if u have a picture of where the cord is located, could you post it. My car doesn't have it and I'm considering adding it but would like to see one first.

I searched but found no pixs.

    Thanks

it's just a simple black cable that is installed and terminates in the net the central tunnel in the passanger footwell.

So the ipod's not visible if that's what concerns you.

There's a pouch along the tunnel in which you can tuck both the cord and the ipod/iphone.

Note that it doesn't charge the 3G iphones when plugged in. I can't comment on iPods.

In my opinion, the lack of charging is a major factory oversight. Fortunately, I was able to buy a small aftermarket in-line adaptor that allows the iPod/iPhone to charge while playing.

Not worth it in my opinion. The only thing you gain vs an FM transmitter is being able to control it with the radio, but browsing on the single DIN unit is unintuitive and terrible. You could argue for sound quality, but since the car is loud and the speakers suck...

Best to just use an iTrip FM modulator w/ a charger.

It does indeed charge/control older iPods and 1G iphones. I have tried.
However, it is not Ferrari's fault that it won't charge the later models. Apple deliberately changed the iPod/iPhone's dock connector on the 3G so people would have to buy new accessories.

Worth it is a matter of opinion, I think the interface is actually very good and very intuitive - certainly compared to others on the market.

And you can ahrdly compare the sound quality from a direct cable connection to the rubbish fm transmitters.

Granted, it's only for low rev use - above 5,500 you'll struggle to hear the ipod over the engine - but I suppose that's the point then :)

ipod's nice to have for regular driving

scuds have a Becker Cascade and you can buy the Becker ipod lead for about £90.

Ferrari charged £400 for this option.

The factory ipod adapter in the Scuderia charges all the ipods except:

    - 2nd generation and newer ipod Touch
    - none of the iphones.
    - last generation nano.

I think is the right step for a lightweight car, eliminate the CD changer, add an ipod nano. Lightweight sound system with plenty of music for when the car is stuck in traffic.

The 16M's newly designed JBL sound system can be heard clearly at nearly all RPM sound levels. Its not perfect, but the volume and sound quality is a substantial improvement over the F430's (and Scud's) optional upgraded hi/fi system.

Can you elaborate on this? One thing I really hate is the lack of charging.

Kevin Wright (k-diddy) at Audio Illusions has the charging interface. Send him a PM, and he will hook you up.

The charging scheme on the older iPods defaulted to firewire power, which is much higher that the 5.0v USB power for all the newer iPods.Apple dropped the FW charging and now all late model iPods only charge with USB voltage.
The little dongle made by Scosche is simply to drop the higher 12V+ power to 5.0V. $20

The speaker design/system is the bulk of the sound quality-problem.
    Terrible!!!!
I'm alright if Ferrari just deletes the car audio system from the options list, I didn't buy my Scud for the sound system, but if Ferrari is charging a ton of money they should do it correctly, best sound in a exotic to compliment the car. Wouldn't be gratifying to go to the local hi-end custom auto sound installer and turn to you and say, "this is awesome sound, I don't think I can add or improve upon the factory system."
