In all seriousness, you only have to look at numbers. Add the population of China and India together, take it 0.01% or there abouts are millionaires or cashed up, and thats a lot of money/buyers as there is no law stopping foreign investment here. I can only speak for my part of town but they are highly represented in house sales. Two Universities close by and High Schools with good reputatoins equals supply over demand.
I had someone unsolicited come to me a few weeks ago, offered a cash purchase of my new house, even said he'd sign contracts there and then.
nah this place is my dream, i intend to stay here for many years to come, no amount of money will make me shift for a while.
I'm the opposite, I like to move every few years, keeps you from accumulating junk, like kids, wives, .......
nah mate, signed a BFA all the way before we moved in to secure it. and im not having kids so should be sweet
short of having a place on Main River, i cant see any location that i would prefer to where i have. and even if i could afford a place on Main River, i doubt it would be as convenient or suitable as where i live now. however if i could afford a penthouse in a nice complex, maybee, but im too sensible to spend money on an appartment, they may have some serious lifestyle advantages, they generally dont have the capital growth of a piece of dirt with its own house.
Bloody bastard!! I was just about to offer you a deal that you couldnt refuse. +1! Pappy looking that way VERY soon. I will have to call ya to inspect some for me mate. Take the Porker too eh, I want to roll up like you mean business. Nein re vlaka!! Its always about the money. (When you're a bum/broke **** like I am. )
This is what I believe is the main issue - house prices tripled while incomes have barely moved. I just don't get how someone on $60k a year figures they can afford a $350k house? Just doesn't add up in my version of maths...
I agree 100% with what you say and wonder how long it can continue. I think whats happening is the ones on the $60k a year are buying in your outer growth suburbs where you can pick up house and land for under $300k. Whats driving up the prices is foreign buyers. Like Bobby, I've had just in the past month a couple real estate agents knock on my door telling me they have cashed up buyers from India and China who want to buy in the area.
I always find the affordability argument a funny one. My family came from Germany, where owning a house is not within everyones reach. My Grandma for example has rented her whole life, she's 80 and still rents a 1 bedroom appartment. the reality is if affordability becomes an issue the rich will just own property and rent it to those who cannot afford to buy. Im not saying thats right or wrong, but just because its the "australian dream" to own a house on a 1/4 acre, doesnt mean everybody has the "right" or "deserves" to have it. just like everybody who wants a Ferrari cant have one. it comes down to many life choices. People always look at me and think im lucky (not compared to some people i know), but then i remind them that i was already saving, investing and working toward a secure financial future when i was 18 not going out drinking and boozing etc. I in fact have always worked ever since i was 11 years old, i had over $20k before i left high school. And i didnt even have my 20's i didnt live them at all. so it all comes down to hard work and sacrifice. just because someone works 40 hours per week does not automatically entitle them to a mcmansion. I dont believe anyone should be homeless in our society, but perhaps people have to make do with less for a while (my first house what a total $#!tbox, but it was mine, paid in full at 22 and thats all that mattered). make what you will of my comments, but affordability is relative, relative to what work you are willing to do, relative to what your expectations are, and relative to your ego.
Im with you Kaz, people manage to do it and its truely amazing how they get by with just the bare basics! Nicole told me last year that her work mate was born and bred on the Gold Coast. This now 35 yr old woman got married and they had 3 kids down there. Their combined income was $70K and they were paying off a $325K home, owned 2 bomby old cars and raised 3 young kids. HOW THE **** they mangaged that I still dont know. They now both work in the mines and have a combined income of $150K+. She told Nicole she buys her kids ANYTHING they want. Motorbikes, toys, Xbox's etc..etc. She said they missed out on a lot of that stuff while on the Gold Coast so now she spoils them. They also now both drive new cars. She a Toyota Prado and he a Toyota L/C trayback. They also bought a home here around the $350K. They are doing well and seem very happy with living in Mount Isa Nicole said. (Probably happy due to the fact they doubled their income moving here. )
Congrats on your success, sincerely. But you touch on the point in this post, when you were 22 you paid for a house in full. Do you think that is still possible? Say you save everything you can leading up to 22, 11-14 paper run at say $70 per week = $10,920 15-17 corner store retail $100 per week =$10,400 17-22 Full time $500 per week = $130,000(averaged due to increasing hourly rate due to experence) So if you saved everything you have 150k, lets say you are a smart investor and make 50% on the money over the years, that's still only $225,000. I say that is near impossible to do now days. Having said all that I do agree with your sentiments, just cos you have a job does not make home ownership a right....
Oh there's definitely life choices to be made.. and there's no "right" or "wrong" about it. I've always leant on the side of remembering life is a one-way-street and you can't rewind the clock, or "postpone" fun to some magical time in the future where "finances are secure" etc.. Some of my best memories in fact from restoring the duke while still a student.. you can't "save" and "live" (the same way) on so many fixed $ at the same time.. you have to decide! Good luck with those who have had great fortune, luck, achieved your goals (whatever they may be), lived the way you wanted and bugger any comparison with anyone else is what I say lol.
On a different note, here is a tidy 308 QV GTS. http://www.carpoint.com.au/all-cars/private/details.aspx?R=8223589&__sid=11BABA7496BA&__Qpb=true&Cr=11&__Ns=pCar_PriceSort_Decimal%7c0%7c%7cpCar_RankSort_Int32%7c1%7c%7cpCar_Make_String%7c0%7c%7cpCar_Model_String%7c0&keywords=&__N=834%201216%201247%201282%201252%201246%204294966380&seot=1&__No=15&__Nne=15&trecs=155&silo=1011 "This vehicle has undergone a 3 Year FULLY STRIPPED down historical restoration." Looks nice, shame its a GTS.
mum went to an auction not long ago, bidding for a nice big mansion in Templestowe, bidding started at 2 mil, going slow between the two main bidders. it kinda slowed down a lot at 2.4, until a 30ish chinese woman with two kids raise her hand and said 3 mil. mum came home called me up and said "fken stupid bloody chinese, how do we tell them to get out of our country!!" i said "MUM! You're CHINESE!"
the math worked out a little different, and I wasn't tyring to brag by any stretch of the imagination. in fact I feel decidedly average when compared with some of our felow forum members. it was just to illustrate a point (which you said you agree with, so this is no tyraid), just working is not enough to have a right to own a large mcmansion. Everythign in life iss a matter of choices, and im sure many people in my position would have far more "flash" for their cash all borowed though im sure. But as mentioned further back, you cant nessecarily defer happiness, and who knows we could all die tomorrow. so at least i have my Porker now, its still no Ferrari or Lambo but its a compromise. but back to the topic, I can't believe how cheap used 355s are being advertised these days, its a pitty when getting them inspected you're still hit with a list of 10-20K of work that needs doing
Yes lol. Damn good nick though, good value compared to tired examples asking too much! Those tilted gauges ahead of gearshift.. I've never seen them before on any other model? Custom mod?
