It looks spot-on for the color now used on Ferrari F1 cars...a red they found shows up better on television. I've not researched the name but think it came about in 2004 or 05 a year after McClunken changed to their chrome paint. Believe it involves a pearlescent undercoat.
Rosso Rubino was offered from '75-'79 and this is the closest color to what the pictures show. As with any color, lighting in the photograph is key. (Just look up "Evening Orchid" for '65 Chevy models and see the contrast in what the cars look like despite all being the same color -- a lavendar color that can look beige in the wrong light!) I'd guess, however, given what the paint looks like that it has been resprayed at some point. Rosso Rubino was a two-stage metallic color, but to get that depth would have to be the world's best polish and wax detail job or a respray.
That car has obviously been repainted. I'll wager it's a newer Ferrari color; doesn't look 'rosy' enough for Rosso Rubino. But the color balance, hue, saturation, and/or output levels have been adjusted in Photoshop, so who knows. I do like the color, too. Who cares if it's not original. BTW, car looks like a 2v GTSi, per seat stitching and lack of vent on front lid.
I saw a high metallic red on a japanese truck yesterday..... I agree it's an aftermarket color OR the new F1 red.....non original to this car anyway.... Unless as someone said a modern replication of the Ferrari color, punched up a little in the mixing process. I like it though, I was thinking the other day about much the same thing on my 20405. I think it's gonna be blue tho...
I can't believe the positive responses to a non original color, at least non original for a 308. I think the color is fantastic, especially on the 308. I have also been thinking about repainting my car and have looked at similar colors but there is always this little voice that keeps saying - "that's not original". As one who actually drives my car and generally doesn't give a damn what anyone thinks this may just help with my color selection!
