Yeah, it is a very cool piece of hardware and if I still only had my iMac it would be an option, but with more than 50% of computers being laptops, I just don't see the point.
No it's not, $430 premium over the iPhone 3GS, for a big screen, to be able to type a paper and no phone calls.
I dont think its groundbreaking and truthfully a little disappointed but it actually would fit nicely into my life and at $700 for the 64gb its not going to hurt my bank account... especially with the cheap data plan. Most of my meetings are visual presentations and this will work great for that.
I'd think with the entry of this larger "ipod", there should be a price drop in the ipod touch to keep some interest. Other than size, I don't see the need for the iPod Touch especially when the iPhone is available. They may not drop the iPod Touch price immediately, so as not to cannibalize the sales of the iPad, but I don't see the Touch sticking around for too much longer as Iphone prices drop.
Arguably, HTML5 will move people over from using Flash, so long-term it's not too big of an issue. YouTube and Vimeo already have beta HTML5 streaming in place. Sucks for the short term though.
For that? when things get bigger they should get cheaper. Considering this is nothing more then a big iPod Touch... this should be a heck of a lot cheaper.
+1 I was certainly hoping for more.... Sleek & sexy - Definitely. But not at all what I was hoping for - A *big* iPod touch with what appears to be a very nice display is cool, but hardly ground breaking. I guess if I was in the market for a new laptop, at a pretty low price it may be worth a look, but pretty disappointed all in all. By the time you've added the dock, kbd etc it's gonna be about the same price. The only marginally interesting thing is it doesn't have an Intel processor - I wonder how it benchmarks against a MacBook? Overall, I concur, "disappointing"......... I'm guessing it will do Flash though. (?)
I don't really see that happening. If people want a portable mp3 player that isn't this huge and isn't a phone, the ipod is the only option. If apple dropped the ipod touch, players like the zune would take a huge chunk of market back.
If you mean as only an mp3 player, Apple still has that covered with their other products, naturally. The benefits to the Touch are the size and price for the interim. I suppose a die-off for the touch would start off in certain consumer segments but it doesn't make much consumer sense to keep the Touch line when the iPad prices drop (if they do). Btw, I don't mean all ipod products will die off if that's how it came across.
That did surprise me - I thought it would include one as it could be a nice video conferencing tool I don't know about those - *Surely* it's gotta do Flash? I also suspect (but certainly don't claim to know) it's more-or-less running OSX optimized for the platform? $499 isn't a bad price, and I'm certainly interested in seeing some benchmark results - The bloggers seemed to be saying the display was *really* nice (better than a MacBook?) and seemed fast and responsive. The jury is very definitely out on this thing. I was for sure hoping for more though
Nope, if you look early on when Jobs goes to Apple.com you can see the little blue box with the question mark, so no flash.
That's a bit harsh! - Bigger laptops cost more than small ones for example..... Definitely disappointed overall though.
$499 $599 or $699 depending on storage and it goes up to $829 with wifi and 3g. Apparently they have all kinds of combos. With educational discount and the inevitable price drop of $100, it will still be a pricey picture frame and ereader. I don't see nav as a reason to buy it. Really stupid product at this price point. I wonder if some really compelling application will come along and save it.
IMO the big "feature" news IS the price point. At $499-629 for a color book reader (WiFi/3G) versus $489 for a B&W Kindle DX (with better battery life), it becomes a legitimate tradeoff for me and makes me consider that over the Kindle DX.
Not all that sexy with that huge bezel around the screen. The form factor is not too different from the HP TC1100, which was discontinued a few years ago.
