From what you have heard, are these new C/F options more "cosmetic" in nature or substantive (i.e. weight reducing)?

Think of the C/F body add ons for the Scuderia and you are pretty much there. They should save some weight but will mostly be bought for cosmetic reasons I should think.

Here's a pic of Hamann's aftermarket carbon fiber piece for the trunk - think the cost is about $2,500 vs Ferrari's of about $1,800.... haven't seen the Ferrari piece, but probably very similar to Hamann's....

I don't really know if the weight saved with any of Ferrari's carbon interior trim options is truly signifcant from a performance standpoint. Of course when you swap out large exterior pieces are carbon like undertrays, roof, hood and trunk then you get some small weight advantage on the track.

The trunk trim piece is probably just attached to the trunk which means that you are actually adding weight with the carbon. It justs makes this much criticized design area look better.

Why wasn't I informed about these? I asked about carbon around the media unit and was told that I must order the entire upper driving zone. Damn it.

The standard trunk has an aluminum trim piece that is normally painted a flat metalic gray. It would be replaced by the carbon fiber trim panel so there probably is no significant weight difference. The carbon definitely would look cool but is it worth the aprox $2K premium?

My dealer tells me that the price is $5,053.00.
    Kinda expensive.
Gonna try and live with what I got.

Actually, the CARBON FIBER REAR PLATE PANEL (CPHO) is only $1889. Still expensive, but not astronomical for Carbon.

Is this the price as an option for a new car? The dealer quoted me the price for the part as a retail parts sale.

    Dear Shawminator and Palerider-
I took a look at the standard rear panel. It is actually a thin piece of metal probably aluminum which is a trim panel, painted black and stuck on possibly by tape and maybe a screw or two.

So the carbon option most likely means that you remove the standard trim and replace with the carbon trim. It does save a little weight- maybe a few ounces!

And hopefully it is closer to 2 grand rather than 5 grand!

    (sg69 you had it right!)

I am not a huge fan of CF, but the center tunnel looks really slick.
Darn it, I would have gotten that too! Oh well, I suppose if I knew about the options available and their specific description, I would have dropped a boatload of mulah. I will love my California nonetheless!

The options add up! Cabon fiber steering wheel, drivers area, bridge, climate control and nav surround bezel, air duct trim, door panels and rear license panel strip- wow that's a small fortune!
