seller demanded at least $33K for his 308 several months ago, now would take $23K

Hey friends, just thought I'd update you on the continuing saga of this poor 308. I test drove it months ago when the seller had it listed for $35K. I ultimately broke off negotiations with him because he refused to consider any price that started with a 2.

Now, apparently, he is still trying in vain to sell his car. According to his latest ad, he is apparently willing to accept $23K! Wow do I feel relieved I didn't give him his asking price!

Having driven the car, I have to say that at this point it's probably not a bad deal, even with the required repairs. Even so, it's not for me. I'm buying a new house.

P.S. If you're seriously interested in it, send me a PM and I'll tell you what I can about it. But, don't expect a quick reply because I virtually never check F-Chat anymore. I have no intention of buying a Ferrari anytime soon.

Yes, it is a good thing I went for a test drive. Back when I was shopping for a Ferrari, I would have jumped on it if the seller had come down to this price. Instead, he demanded too much. So the months passed, my wife had a kid, and my priorities changed. Now I'm glad he demanded too much.

Ok, I have one.

Anyone who takes pictures of a Ferrari (in order to sell it) with 200 pine needles all over the photos is a complete moron. Is his daily parking spot under a white pine?

I swear people are idiots.

LOL, wrong pines, same idiot. We assume that if he doesn't take the time to clean off the pine needles from his engine for photos before he SELLS the car, God knows he didn't care about getting the sap off of it, or check the oil, or change the belts, or.........BEFORE he was going to sell it...

Pine needles or not, this seems like a seller who has fully capitulated and at $23K asking, this seems like a potential steal for a QV.

 

He has capitulated, somewhat, went and looked at it the other day. What he does not mention is he knows nothing about Ferraris and nothing about mechanics and does not have the resources to pay to have someone else maintain it. Basically he bought it 5 years ago, drove it until it would not go anymore, and now wants to sell it and have someone else fix it up.

What I found, by the way it has not been registered and cannot be driven for the reasons below.

Electrical problems with the charging system.
Radiator Leaking
Coolant hose has a hole somewhere under the passanger side.
Bald Tires.
Top leaks
Major service needs to be done. Belts and so forth.
Some pretty deep scrapes in the undercarrage.
Some tears in the interior.
Water stains behind the seats.
You get the idea. The funny thing is he says how attached he is to "her" and how much he loves "her" but he has not put a dime into "her" to make you belive it. I told him a Ferrari is not a buy and drive car. It's a buy, drive and maintain car.

I figured it needs about $10,000 or more to get it in shape to drive.

 

$21.5K now, per the ad. Got to be getting close to somebody's idea of a deal, despite needing a bunch of work.

 

Maybe the fellow has been using it as his 4X4 for camping weekends....

any lower and i am going to get it. i did all of my hoses on my last car, add Birdman fuse boxes and a long weekend to ring out the car with a meter.... car has metric wheel and tires on it, so it needs new wheels anyway........ and add a euro valance and grill.

i think a few of our fchat brothers here have QVs that need love they would sell for around $25k, that are in better shape.

 

Let's all chip in and pick it up for $18k.

Then we can divvy it up for spare parts.

My car has had every problem that has been listed at one time or another - except water damage inside.

Easy fixes.

Seeing that he's continuing to drop the price - I'd wait it out. He's obviously desperate to sell. If it goes under 20K and it's still available, I might make a move on it. I could do the necessary work myself...

 

It's a 15k car plus I'm sure there are numerous issues that haven't even been identified yet. Granted it would be a great project as stated above but it could run 10k or more to get it back into shape. The car is at 21,500 now & says he wouldn't go any lower. I'd like to have one but economically I'm not ready yet. I have too many other bills to worry about. There are plenty of other 308's stashed away needing "massive service" lower priced than this.

not to toot my own horn, but my euro QV needs just a major service and has no issues, at $25k. i think mine is a far better deal than that car. just sayin'....

$21K for this? Considering it needs roughtly $10K, unless you can do most of it yourself for less, I still think it is a steal.

 

What's with the continual use of the word "demanded" (he demanded too much)? He asked asked a certain amount for his car. If it's too high you vote with your wallet by not buying it. If he gets what he was asking then it was not out of line and he was justified in the price he set. It sounds like you're angry you didn't get it at the price you wanted. There's no law that a person must negotiate a or come down on price even if it doesn't sell.

Not making any statement about the car. Don't know anything about and it may be an overpriced piece of junk however......

You could do everything for $7k:

Major- $1,200
Tires & wheels- $2,200
Alternator, wires, caps, rotors, fuseblock, etc.- $800
Hoses, radiator, etc.- $400
Seat covers, misc. interior finishes- $1,800
Beer- $600

Good as a car can be w/ 54k miles on it. 6 months and $28,500 out-the-garage.

 

Even better. So this car, including the purchase price and the needed maintenance, is still under $30k...sounds like a no-brainer - unless I am missing something here?
