Ok, so as we all know this latest ferrari's headlights aren't exactly pretty...so I took the liberty to modify them in paint, to see if I can salvage at least some part of them and give the car a more elegant, less "in your face" look. Please tell me what you think !

So what you can see below is the original picture, which I really hate, and the same picture modified in photoshop, I mean paint lol (I know, this is not exactly pretty either, but to me, it is a lot easier on the eyes!)

    Fail.

There is nothing wrong with the headlights as they are.

Not at all, I've been very critical of them on this board and there are a few of my photoshop efforts floating around the forum. I just don't think your pic moves it on at all.

I don't know. I think that the front looks strange even with the vents eliminated.

So far the best "fix" seems to be painting the car in black (IMO).

Styling/design is more than eliminating a bothersome line or feature, the lines and shapes tend to support each other and eliminating or changing one tends to throw the rest off balance.

When the car first came out I was skeptical (as usual with new models), but now I love everything about the car.

I think the headlights a beautiful, a lot nice then the 430's.

A, ok then :) Where can I see your photoshop efforts ?

The whole front end design of this car is a big fail. I just tried to see if a mild redesign would make it more bearable to the eyes. At least to my eyes, it is, altough it is still fugly. So I guess a complete workout is needed :>

"There is nothing wrong with the headlights as they are" -ok, say that to the dozens of people on this forum who said they won't buy this car because of the headlights :)

At first, i find it weird but now, i dont bother me either. I actually like them. It gives a very agressive look to the car.

    correct +100

to change the headlamp designs on the Italia, the entire hood shape and contour, in addition to the shapes of the lights, would need to be changed.

It's time to accept the car for what it is or move on. This is what Ferrari has delivered to the world markets. Alas, wait for the limited edition /facelifted variants to come, and of course the successor to the 458 in 4 to 6 years hence.

For me, the direction they chose to go in is a bit on the weird side, with the whole LED and wind-tunnel fetish taken a bit too far. But overall the car commands a presence. For me it looks best in black, as it blends together more nicely the queer front openings.

I think some people what to take all the flavor out of design. They want it boring... sort of beige... so that "everyone" will like it. No one will love it, but everyone will like it.

To me exotic sportscars have ALWAYS had some controversy in their visual designs. Whether it's the Dino's extreme curves, the outlandishness of a Countach's folded paper sheet metal, or the cheese grater grills on the TR, or the Sharknose grill on the F430,-- or in the 458's case, the front end.

I'd rather have something worth growing into than be bored with 5 minutes after seeing it.

That's why this thread fails. It tries to take something interesting and turn it into something boring and ordinary.

    Hello All,

Here is my two cents. If there are people out there that when a 458 drives by they say "Oh don't like the lights or front end". All I can say is I want to be the one driving it and I guarantee I will be smiling the whole time and not the person watching it drive by. When you are driving it you will forget about the front end look and lights.

A friend of mine once said some cars are cooler to see driving by and others are more fun driving it. My guess is the 458 will be more fun driving than watching.

    Cheers,

As far as I know these little vents have a function.
Get rid of them and something is going to get worse, much worse(aerodynamics, cooling or whatever).
Original design still looks better then any of those photoshops.

yes that's the whole point of the openings and weird front; it's all a wind tunnel science project

Here's my 2 cents. The size of the headlights take getting used to. Is it a design element that will receive so much criticism that Ferrari changes it sooner than later on a 458 refreshing? It wouldn't be the first time a car manufacture made changes quickly on designs. Could the 2010-2011 458 be the model no one wants because Ferrari makes changes in 2012. The 458 is receiving more than enough negative comments on the look of the front end. Could the 458 front end be another 348 disaster with the straked side air intakes? Even Luca commented the 348's air intakes were a mistake. They were gone as fast as you can say 355. The 458 front end could become dated quickly. Is it a design Ferrari owners don't want 4 years from now?
